Kirby is set to break the world in half with a giant sword and step into the “world beyond” next year.
Nintendo’s iconic pink ball, Kirby, is returning with a new entry in its mainline series. Showcased as the closing act of the Nintendo Direct, Kirby and the World Beyond was announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 and is coming in spring 2027.

What's with all the Kirby x The Truman Show memes?
One of Nintendo’s oldest characters, Kirby, is getting a major new entry next year, with many already comparing its concept to the Jim Carrey film The Truman Show, as Kirby discovers a world beyond his familiar surroundings.
The nearly three-minute trailer first showcased Kirby freely roaming around his 3D world, inhaling enemies, stealing abilities, hunting for chests and generally doing classic Kirby things. But everything changes when Kirby sends an enemy plummeting into the sky, creating a crack in the atmosphere.
A mysterious purple character then approaches Kirby and gifted him a large blue sword. It allows Kirby to smash and slice through everything around him–and, of course, cut through the crack in the sky. The opening revealed an outside world, a world beyond, where we could see mysterious structures, including one giant, sprawling mechanical unit floating in the sky.
That’s about all we know about the next Kirby game so far.
Kirby and the World Beyond will be the second 3D game in the franchise, following Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which brought the series into fully 3D environments in 2022. It also adds to Kirby’s growing list of mainline games, dating back to the franchise’s original launch in 1992.
Kirby and the World Beyond is set to release on the Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027.
