Mewgenics devs tease mod support and first post-launch DLC content

Mewgenics has more tricks up its sleeve.

Jumping into Mewgenics already feels like stepping into an enormous roguelike adventure that keeps opening up the longer you play. Even deep into long-term runs, players are still uncovering new mechanics, wild builds, and hidden interactions, and the developers have started revealing what’s coming next. Co-developer Tyler Glaiel has teased plans for official mod support, Steam Workshop integration, and the game’s first DLC.

Glaiel shared the updates while answering player questions over on X, where he has been actively responding to feedback and clarifying mechanics. In between discussions about pathing behaviour and gameplay systems, he confirmed that modding tools and post-launch content are planned for the future.

“Eventually. I want to add an official launcher and workshop support,” Glaiel wrote, explaining that he initially planned to reuse the same launcher and backend tools developed for The End Is Nigh. However, he noted that approach would not meet Steam Deck verification standards, which has pushed him towards building a new solution.

He added that the feature will “have to wait a bit” while development resources focus on localisation, explaining that he is currently “busy with non-Latin language support at the moment”. The post confirms that official mod and Workshop integration are on the roadmap once those systems are complete.

When asked about a timeline, Glaiel replied: “Eventually.” No concrete release window was shared, but his comments make clear that these updates remain under active development.

Mewgenics DLC plans confirmed as developers map out first expansion

Alongside modding tools, Glaiel also confirmed that work has begun on Mewgenics’ first DLC. He revealed that he and co-developer Edmund McMillen have been “discussing and mapping out” what he referred to as “DLC 1”, describing the early planning phase as something that has him “getting a little bit excited about it”.

While the scope of the expansion remains under wraps, Glaiel later clarified that the first DLC is currently envisioned as a smaller release, with a tentative launch window targeted for late next year.

“DLC 1 is supposed to be a ‘small’ one so ideally like, end of next year maybe. But who knows,” he wrote, emphasising that plans are flexible and subject to change. These comments align with McMillen’s recent remarks, where he had already discussed possible DLC following the game’s strong commercial and player reception.

Mewgenics received a very positive reception, selling 1 million copies in its first week, with daily player counts averaging between 51,000 and 90,000, and peaking at more than 115,000 during launch week. With a sizeable playerbase and dev updates coming in hot reguarly, it looks like the Mewgenics rabbit hole is only just getting started.
