Nioh 3 hits 1 million sales in two weeks, franchise tops 10 million global sales

The Yokai hunt is off to a flying start.

Soulslike fans have wasted no time diving into Yokai-infested battlefields. Just two weeks after launch, Nioh 3 has stormed past a major milestone, setting a new sales record for the franchise.

The news was revealed on Friday, 20 February, via an official Steam blog post from KOEI TECMO. In the announcement, the publisher confirmed that Nioh 3 has “surpassed one million units sold worldwide, becoming the fastest-selling entry in the series' history”. It also stated that the wider franchise has now exceeded 10 million units sold globally.

The post reads: “Nioh 3 Reaches 1 Million Units Sold Worldwide as Franchise Tops 10 Million Units” and describes the game as “the Fastest-Selling in the Series”, while confirming that an accolades trailer is now live. Koei Tecmo added, “We are truly grateful to players around the world for their incredible support,” and thanked fans for their continued backing of the game.

For context, Nioh 2 launched in March 2020 and took over a year to reach two million copies sold across platforms. By comparison, Nioh 3 has reached one million units in just a fortnight.

Aside from the blog post, KOEI TECMO also released a celebratory video:

Nioh 3 Steam peak hits more than 88,000, review scores remain strong

Based on the video released by the devs, Nioh 3 has received high scores across many gaming outlets. Reception across platforms has also been positive. On the PlayStation Store, the game currently holds a 4.45 out of 5 average user rating. Meanwhile on Steam, it boasts an 83% (Very Positive) positive rating.

Nioh 3 also broke the franchise’s previous peak player record, which had been set by Nioh 2’s Complete Edition following its delayed PC launch. Over its launch weekend, the new entry climbed to more than 88,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.

Notably, Nioh 3 is not yet available on Xbox. Even without a launch on Microsoft’s platform, the game’s early performance has been enough to push the franchise past 10 million total sales worldwide.
