Kena Bridge of Spirits sequel Scars of Kosmora gets first gameplay reveal

Ember Lab sets a 2026 launch window for Kena: Scars of Kosmora with new reveal trailer.

The game studio behind Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Ember Lab, has unveiled the first glimpse of its sequel, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, during the PlayStation State of Play livestream held earlier today.

The announcement came via a reveal trailer showcasing Kena’s next journey, in which she arrives on the mysterious island of Kosmora and battles creatures to cleanse the spreading corruption.

With visibly enhanced visuals and gameplay upgrades across the board, the trailer has sparked excitement among fans of the original title.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora is confirmed for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.

Ember Lab highlights sequel backstory and new mechanics

Josh Grier, co-founder of Ember Lab, shared additional details in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

According to Grier, Kena returns in this sequel as a more experienced Spirit Guide, now able to use her skills to aid the living, not only the departed. She is depicted as older and more renowned, embarking on a journey to the mysterious island of Kosmora in search of answers to her lifelong afflictions.

Her iconic staff, the primary weapon in the original game, will be fractured by powerful spirits, forcing Kena to discover new ways to survive. This prompts her to learn a forgotten form of Spirit Guiding that uses Alchemy to manipulate the elements.

Grier also teased the inclusion of elemental spirit companions as a key feature of the game. These companions act as charming allies, travelling with Kena, growing over time, and unlocking new powers as the bond between them deepens. The reveal trailer introduced one such companion, a green-tailed majestic fox, with more promised to be revealed in the future.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora will also expand on its predecessor's combat mechanics, featuring new skills, elemental infusions, and the strategic use of Spirit Companions, forming the core of Kena’s gameplay.

“While we’d love to talk to you more about the story you’re going to experience, we’re very conscious of anything remotely spoiler-esque,” Grier wrote.

“We’ve put a ton of effort into crafting the narrative for Scars of Kosmora, and the team is focused on creating an emotional and heartfelt adventure for returning players of Kena: Bridge of Spirits and those new to Kena’s world.”
