Battlefield 6 Season 2 cinematic teases new base map, hazardous smoke, and gas masks

The latest trailer drops players into a base under siege, where poisonous smoke and chaos could redefine the fight.

Season 2 of Battlefield 6 is almost here, hitting on 17 February after a short delay to fine-tune gameplay and respond to player feedback. Ahead of the full gameplay reveal on 12 February, Battlefield Studios has released the season’s intro cinematic video, offering a first look at a new base map and some intriguing gameplay twists.

The cinematic opens with a tense narration: “Pax Armata seized Hagental Air Base, the weak link in NATO's satellite command node. This loss has left us blind.” The scene quickly escalates as the base is breached, followed by scenes of how the air base fell into the enemy's hands, all being reported by news outlets globally. Then as it continues, the narrator declares, “Command has authorised full force engagement against the base. Whatever it takes, whatever it costs, we take that node back, or we lose this war.”

Based on the cinematic, the new map looks quite expansive, allowing for aerial combat and tanks rolling across open terrain. One of the most striking additions is the hazardous smoke scattered across the map, forcing players to gear up with gas masks. Tested in Battlefield Labs as a map called “Contaminated,” it’s unclear exactly how the smoke will change fights, but it looks set to shake up both infantry skirmishes and vehicle battles.

Battlefield 6 Season 2 is only just getting started

This first phase of Season 2 introduces new weapons, attachments, and map content, but there’s more to come. Battlefield Studios has confirmed that fan-favourite Battlefield 4 map Golmud Railway will return later in the season. The full gameplay trailer, dropping on 12 February, will provide further insight into the new mechanics and maps.

Battlefield 6 is available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Despite some post-launch dips in player count, the game was the best-selling title in the United States last year, marking a notable success for Electronic Arts.
