Total War Warhammer 40,000 has finally been revealed during The Game Awards 2025

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only Total War.

The Total War series is finally making the leap to the grim darkness of the far future. During The Game Awards 2025, Total War series developer Creative Assembly revealed Total War: Warhammer 40,000 with an action-packed trailer featuring the Ultramarines Chapter of Space Marines, alongside the Astra Militarum, battling with the Orks.

Based on what was shown in the trailer, fans of the Total War series and the Warhammer 40,000 franchise alike can expect Total War's signature massive ground battles between huge armies. Space plays a key role during combat too, if the shots of an Imperial Navy ship releasing Space Marine drop pods and unleashing orbital bombardments to reinforce its army on the ground is anything to go by.

And if you're not a fan of the Ultramarines, don't fret, you'll be able to play as any of the countless Space Marine Chapters defending the Imperium too.

While the trailer also did not show any of the game's turn-based campaign aspect, it at least seems to imply a galactic scale. As for what factions we can expect at launch, there's the three already shown in the trailer: the Space Marines, Astra Militarum, and the Orks. Meanwhile, the game's splash art shows the fourth: the Aeldari.

There is no release date announced for Total War: Warhammer 40,000 yet.

This is not the first time that Creative Assembly will be working closely with Games Workshop to bring Warhammer to life. Back in 2016, the Total War series first stepped into the realm of fantasy with Total War: Warhammer, which is set in the universe of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Total War: Warhammer has since grown into a sprawling trilogy, with Total War: Warhammer III releasing in 2022 and still receiving continued support in the form of DLCs.

During the Total War series' 25th anniversary showcase earlier this month, Creative Assembly revealed the “Lords of the End Times” DLC for Total War: Warhammer III will be coming in Summer 2026 and that the long-awaited Total War: Medieval III is already in early development.
