Meanwhile, G2 bow out of the competition in 12th-14th place.
It's another fight for survival at the League of Legends World Championship 2026 Swiss Stage, as two of the tournament's biggest powerhouses find themselves on the brink of elimination. Reigning Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) champions
Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) and European champions
G2 Esports face off in a crucial best-of-three series, with only one team able to keep their Worlds campaign alive.
In the end, it was HLE that defeated G2 in a 2-0 sweep, avoiding elimination and securing one final chance to reach the Knockout Stage.
Both teams entered Worlds 2026 as strong contenders after impressive performances throughout the season. HLE secured their second consecutive MSI title and finished as the LCK's second seed, while G2 swept all three LEC titles and proved themselves internationally, including a remarkable 3-0 victory over Gen.G in the First Stand semifinals.
However, neither team has managed to carry that momentum into the Swiss Stage. G2 suffered a heartbreaking opening defeat to
Dplus KIA after surrendering a commanding lead, although they recovered with a victory over CBLOL first seed LOS. Their momentum was short-lived, however, as they subsequently fell to
Top Esports, leaving the LEC champions with a 1-2 record.
HLE, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a victory over Top Esports, but struggled against their fellow LCK representatives,
Gen.G, who overwhelmed them in their second Swiss Stage matchup. Their troubles continued against
Shanghai Invictus Gaming, who handed the MSI champions another defeat and pushed them into the elimination matches.
HLE dominate the opening game as Zeus becomes unstoppable
The first game quickly turned into a bloodbath, with G2 coming out aggressively in the bot lane and finding early kills to establish an advantage. However, HLE responded by catching Rasmus “Caps” Winther in the mid lane before forcing G2 away from the Dragon and securing the objective for themselves.
Another chaotic fight broke out in the jungle, with G2 nearly cleaning up HLE. However, Choi “Zeus” Woo-je managed to keep himself alive long enough for his teammates to arrive, turning the fight around in HLE's favour. The LCK representatives continued to punish G2's aggression, allowing Zeus and
Kim “Zeka" Geon-woo to build massive gold leads as the game progressed.
Zeus, in particular, became an absolute raid boss, growing increasingly tanky and difficult for G2 to deal with. Jungler Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok also became a major problem for the European squad, who continued to look for opportunities to fight back, only to find themselves punished repeatedly by HLE.
With HLE firmly in control, G2 made one last attempt to prevent their opponents from securing the Baron. However, HLE once again came out on top, completely overwhelming G2 in the ensuing teamfight and securing an ace. After 27 minutes, HLE destroyed G2's Nexus with a dominant 22-10 kill lead to claim the first game of the series.
HLE punish G2's aggression to complete the sweep
With their Worlds campaign on the line, G2 once again came out aggressively in the second game, with multiple kills traded in the bot lane as both teams fought for an early advantage. Meanwhile, Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik found success in the top lane, getting the better of Zeus in the Camille matchup. The early laning phase turned into another back-and-forth battle, with both sides finding kills and looking to establish control.
However, G2 struggled to maintain their small advantage as HLE once again punished their aggression. The European squad continued to overextend and make costly mistakes, giving HLE more opportunities to close the gap. Zeka's Swain became particularly troublesome, proving difficult to take down while dealing significant damage to G2's champions.
From there, HLE took complete control of the game, with G2 increasingly unable to contain Zeka's Swain or find successful fights. The LCK representatives extended their advantage, secured the Baron, and continued their domination as G2 struggled to find a way back into the match.
After just 26 minutes, HLE destroyed G2's Nexus with a commanding 19-7 kill lead, completing the 2-0 sweep and eliminating the European champions from Worlds 2026.
With their victory, Hanwha Life Esports survive elimination and will have one final chance to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
Meanwhile, G2 Esports bow out of the competition in 12th to 14th place, taking home US$125,000 in consolation prize money.
