The game will be mobile-exclusive for now, something which has divided fans when it was first teased.
Square Enix has now given fans a proper look at the project it teased last week. The new game, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, is set for release in 2026 and will feature 3v3 boss battles, with a closed beta planned for November.
The game is coming to iOS and Android in 2026. The reveal confirms the return of Dissidia as a free-to-play mobile title, focusing on fast-paced team battles.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy keeps the series’ focus on team battles, but shifts the action to a new 3v3 format. Two teams compete to defeat a powerful boss before the other side can, with roaming monsters constantly getting in the way and turning fights unpredictable.
Square Enix describes it as a game built for quick, one-handed play, but one that still keeps the same visual flair as past entries. The cel-shaded style gives fights a cleaner, more animated edge.
New Dissidia story is set in Tokyo
The story takes place in modern Tokyo, where a massive blue crystal suddenly appears in the city. At first, it becomes part of everyday life, its glow a strange but peaceful sight. That calm doesn’t last long. When the crystal is tainted by a dark energy, monsters begin to emerge, plunging the city into chaos.
As fear spreads and the crystal’s corruption deepens, mysterious warriors appear on the streets, answering a call no one else can hear. They fight fiercely, then vanish just as quickly, their identities hidden. Before long, the people begin to call them “Ghosts”.
Alongside the main story, which is fully voiced in Japanese, players will also unlock short side episodes offering glimpses into these warriors’ lives when they’re not fighting.
Familiar heroes like Cloud, Rinoa, Lightning and more return with fresh designs
Characters from across the Final Fantasy series return with their own unique skills and moves. Each ability is accompanied by detailed artwork created by several well-known artists collaborating on the project. The reveal trailer already hints at some familiar faces joining the fray, with more to be announced in the coming months.
Closed Beta test dates and details
A Closed Beta Test for Android users in the United States and Canada will run this November.

After Dissidia Final Fantasy NT wound down, the series seemed to be over for good. Duellum brings it back in a different form, trading console arenas for mobile team battles. It’s a new direction for Dissidia, but one that could give the crossover a second life if Square Enix can make it work.
