Matu Dota 2 TI11

Matumbaman and Team Liquid advance to top 3 at TI11

Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen and crew have survived another day at The International 2022 and advance to take at least a top 3 finish.

This was potentially Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen's last dance with Dota 2 as he had previously announced prior to the event that after The International he was "donezo"

There were so many emotions and lots at stake. Team Aster was the only Chinese team left standing and not since the early TI's (TI3) was there never a Chinese team in the top three.

And things were pushed to the limit with an exciting three-game series, keeping Matu's career alive another day and forcing an all WEU grand finals at The International 2022.

Game 1

While the game seemed pretty even and back and forth the game's victory hinged on impressive decisions after a critical fight.

The Team Aster diebacks before the Roshan about 35 minutes in came back to bite them when Team Liquid waited for the Aegis to expire and then just went in, running down the mid lane, and got the job done very suddenly. It was a beautiful example of finding the perfect moment and capitalizing on the situation.

Game 2

Team Aster went with the Omni Knight, despite the low win rate.

Why would I pick him if I didn't believe in him?
~Zhang "LaNm" Zhicheng, Team Aster coach

And now we all believe.

Team Aster just dominated the second game, with the last pick Omni Knight being brilliant and a fantastic Pudge performance for Zeng "Ori" Jiaoyang, killing enemy Storm Spirit in midlane.

All of the pieces for the Aster lineup played into each other perfectly and made for a smooth victory to tie up the series.

Game 3

Team Liquid let Matu choose what hero he wanted to 'potentially' go out playing. The Finnish player chose Night Stalker, even though according to the coach William "Blitz" Lee, he's pretty bad on.

Despite Ludwig "zai" Wåhlberg having an early rough game, Michael "miCKe" Vu's playing aggressively and building a substantial lead was quite helpful for Team Liquid to gain momentum and get some huge moments under their belts.

Amazing warding, perfect Roshan calls, and fantastic coordination and teamplay propelled Team Liquid into a fearsome opponent. In the end, Matu had a flawless game on his "bad" Nightstalker with an 11:0:13 record at the end.

Team Aster will leave with a 4th-place finish and $1,110,876.

Team Liquid will advance through the lower brackets for the lower bracket finals against the loser of Team Secret/Tundra tomorrow, October 30th at 05:00 CET.

The International 2022

The International in Singapore will be the largest Dota tournament in history featuring 30 world-class teams battling out on the road to the Aegis of Champions across 4 consecutive weekends.

TI11 takes place in Singapore from October 8th (starting with the offline/LAN last chance qualifiers) to October 30th with the grand finals.

On 22nd January 2022, it was announced that the second and third-place teams from each region's qualifiers would compete in the Last Chance Qualifier LAN event prior to The International to decide the final two qualification spots - thus expanding The International 2022 from 18 to 20 teams.
