OG and Tundra start the DPC with a bang

Tundra styled on Alliance with the same draft twice in a row, while the youngsters from OG upset the all-star Team Secret lineup.

Western Europe Division 1 started with highly anticipated matches and delivered hard to predict outcomes. Tundra Esports, who made no roster changes, picked up right from where they left in the previous DPC season and defeated 2-0 the newly tinkered Alliance by repeating the same draft.

Leon "Nine" Kirilin, who tormented his adversaries at the end of the previous season with mid lane Winter Wyvern and Keeper of the Light, kicked off the new DPC year with two Earth Spirit games in the mid lane and made perfect use of the hero’s mobility and control spells to toy with his adversaries from early stages. While Tundra’s draft featured both early aggression and lane dominance with Nine’s ES and Snapfire plus Gyrocopter in the support lines, they also had the late game option with an offlane Doom and a carry Faceless Void. However, they didn’t need to rely on the late game scenario as Alliance’s lanes were heavily under distress.

After the quick 19 to 39 defeat, Alliance tried to address the lane sustainability issue by bringing Ogre Magi to position 5 and Weaver in the soft support role, while also looking to match Nine’s fast tempo by replacing their game one Shadow Fiend with Lina. Nonetheless, that only provided them with a bit more balance in the laning stage. Past the 10 minute mark, they had no chance of surviving Tundra’s team fight, with an early Black King Bar on Doom and Oliver "skiter" Lepko’s Mask of Madness - Faceless Void always ready to join the fight .

Day one in the Western Europe Division 1 ended with the young OG squad going full HAM on Team Secret.

OGvsTeam Secret

Judging on their first game draft that featured a Pudge opener, an offlane Winter Wyvern for Daryl Koh "iceiceice" Pei Xiang and a last pick Grimstroke for Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan, Secret began their DPC campaign aiming to have fun. They got punished for that by the young generation. Artem "Yuragi" Golubiev went 28-0-22 at his debut under the OG banner with a Razor carry in game one and a Templar Assassin in game two, while the 16 years old Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf bullied Secret’s safe lane with a Manta Style build on Timbersaw in game one and a Mars in game two.

Despite Secret’s attempt to salvage the series with a quick tempo draft in game two, the better team fight control and initiation tools between OG’s Ember Spirit, Mars and Dark Willow, gave them no chance at pushing the series to decisive game three.

Western Europe Division 1 matches will resume today, December 1st at 15:00 with Team Liquid taking on Cool Guys, while Team Secret and Alliance will get their shot at scoring the first victories this Winter Tour on Saturday, December 4.
