Fnatic knocked out 2:0 by Evil Geniuses at ESL One Hamburg 2017

Fnatic have become the first team to be eliminated at ESL One Hamburg 2017 at the hands of Evil Geniuses.

On the brink of elimination without even getting to see the main stage, both teams no doubt were experiencing some gut wrenching emotions as they headed into the player booths.

Exuding confidence Evil Geniuses would take matters and fate into their own hands. In a strong 2:0 sweep, the North American giants staved off defeat for at least another day.

Fnatic walk away with $20,000 consolation prize and no qualifying points towards TI8. The team will make another unexpected appearance in the Pro Circuit at DotaPit Minor in Split, Croatia starting November 2nd. The SEA representatives were able to slide into the vacant spot left open in DotaPit when Mineski was forced to withdraw due to family issues.

Over the course of the next two days, the seven remaining teams will continue in a battle for the lion's share of the TI8 qualifying points and $1,000,000 prize pool. Team Secret and Virtus.Pro have already secured a place in the playoffs, top 4 finish, minimum of 150 qualifying points and at least $90,000.

Group A elimination series

Fnatic 0:2 Evil Geniuses

The first game started out fairly even keeled with Evil Geniuses taking a slight lead. Fnatic were playing much cleaner than had been seen the day before indicating that the team had gone back after their devastating loss to retool their strategy and mindset. It wasn't enough to pull ahead of EG, the North American team continued to just forge ahead creating more space and cushion in their lead. With the game under their control from the start, Evil Geniuses took a comfortable first victory.

With their backs against the wall, Fnatic came out with a much more solid and better draft than their opponents. Early on Fnatic tried to hold their own and kept up with Evil Geniuses. Once again, the North American's strategy and lead started to take shape but Fnatic would show signs of life, working hard to remain a threat and open any windows of opportunities possible. Winning the engagement around minute 28 gave Fnatic a chance to push high ground and gave them their first gold lead of the series. Feeling the pressure intensify, EG then hit back to force a high ground push
