The International 6 day one recap: NA'VI is gone and the Secret is revealed

The first day witnessed the elimination of four teams, a few upsets and two teams solidifying their spots in the top six. Tomorrow, another two teams will be eliminated and two more top six finishers will be decided.?

The teams eliminated in the best-of-one lower bracket today were VG.Reborn, Secret, Escape and NA'VI. With their tournament runs ending on a 13th-16th place finish, the teams will be going home with a $95,150 (0.5%) prize for their performance. The teams were eliminated by TnC, LGD, Fnatic and Liquid respectively. Meanwhile, in the best-of-three upper bracket matches, MVP.P continued their habit of impressive LAN performances by 2-1'ing OG, and Wings won against DC after winning a rough game one and a smooth game three.

Looking at the current standings, a top six finish and at least $856,348 (4.5%) of the prize pool is guaranteed for Wings and MVP.P, and a 9th-12th place finish and at least $285,499 (1.5%) will be awarded to the teams currently in the lower bracket. Tomorrow, OG will face up against TnC and, LGD against DC, in a best-of-three to decide who retains their tournament live.

Schedule for day two:
Upper bracket: (All times in CEST)
19:00 - Alliance vs EHOME (Gosurank: #11 vs #3)
22:00 - Evil Geniuses vs Newbee (Gosurank: #9 vs #4)

Lower bracket:
01:45 - TnC vs OG (Gosurank: #13 vs #1)
05:00 - DC vs LGD (Gosurank: #8 vs #7)

Day one game recaps:

Elimination games: (BO1)

TnC vs VG.R: Arguably one of the bigger upsets today, TnC defeated VG.R after drafting a Terrorblade and Tinker core with a Silencer support. During the game, TnC made the right calls and punished VG.R for over-aggression while making space for their carries, resulting in their victory.

Secret vs LGD: Discipline was shown in this game by LGD as they took a strong early game lead and many early towers, but resisted continuous high-ground attempts due to their poor high-ground breaking line-up. It was only at the 65th minute when Secret made a mistake and LGD went for the kill.

Fnatic vs Escape: Despite looking shaky in the drafting, Fnatic were able to capitalize on Escape's four melee heroes with a Templar Assassin and Tide Hunter. With these two heroes, Escape were held hostage to their lack of range and lost the game.

NA'VI vs Liquid: Facing up against the time bomb that is Naga Siren, NA'VI had to play a quick game. They tried, but were trounced by failed smoke ganks and even team fights.

Upper bracket: (BO3)

OG vs MVP.P: Playing like they always have, MVP.P were out for blood, playing aggressively and finding pick-offs throughout the games. Game one was rough for the Koreans as they were put on the back foot early on, however, combining big plays with superior tactics, MVP took the game. The team proceeded to lose game two after a horrendous laning stage and win game three with a 30 minute long blood bath - their specialty.

DC vs Wings: The first game kept swaying in and out of Wings's favor as they were kept at bay by DC's ganks, however, a few good timing windows opened up by item purchases and Roshan allowed Wings to take the game. In game two, Wings experimented with little success, picking up a Techies and Pudge and losing the game. In game three, Wings went back to their normal ways and won off the good execution of team fights.
