After allegations of AI usage in Animal Hospital surfaced, the studio responded with an apology.
Animal Hospital, one of the most popular games on Roblox, is under fire after an artist alleged that the game had continued to use AI to generate content including some assets in the game's latest update.
As backlash ensued, Animal Hospital developer Roytt responded with an apology through the game’s official Discord server. The developer acknowledged that the game had used an “AI filter” in the latest update to polish certain content, but promised that all AI-generated content has since been removed.
The full statement reads as follows:
Hello everyone,
We owe you an apology. In our latest update, we used an AI filter to do touch-ups on studio screenshots that played on the TV. That was the wrong call.
To make things clear, we never used any of the art created by our talented team to feed an AI. We respect the art they make greatly, and we should have shown that by waiting for the art to be completed rather than filling the gap with AI.
We’ve removed the assets, and going forward, we will delay any missing assets rather than replacing them with AI.
We know trust has to be earned back. We are grateful for your support, and we are here to listen.
What AI content was allegedly in Animal Hospital?
Kitlosi, an artist who has worked on plenty of skin designs for Animal Hospital, recently posted on X to announce that he had left the development team due to its continued use of AI. He alleged that assets in the latest update, including the TV display and some character dialogue, are AI generated.
The post on X racked up more than 1.4 million impressions, with many commenters criticising the Animal Hospital studio.
The situation is particularly disappointing for fans, as the studio has allegedly been caught using AI before. Many comments on Reddit pointed out that Animal Hospital used AI to generate assets for the 2D Med Kit and Maple Syrup, but already previously apologised and promised to hire real artists.
“I was willing to forgive them for using AI the first time because they changed the assets, but when they have artists already, why even use AI at that point?” one comment on Reddit read.
A majority of fans are disappointed, particularly as the game is one of the most-played and likely most profitable games on the platform, given their relatively pricy skins. Animal Hospital has only been around for five months, and it has already recorded more than 2.3 billion visits and a peak concurrent player count (CCU) of 1.2 million. The game even spearheaded the 2026 Roblox Innovation Awards with four accolades claimed.
Following this second round of an AI-related controversy, the developer has now once again promised to steer clear of AI usage. But it remains to be seen whether this is simply an attempt to bury the hatchet, or whether the studio will stick to its promise this time around.
