Many teams gave up in the beginning, others tried to follow the event and fight for their spot on IDEC. What happens is that after so many things going wrong, most of them "lost their willingness to compete".
The ones who followed the weekly report of Earth League knows that every single report, news about "Team X leaving the tournament" were expected. Reasons like vacations, team disbandment and team being already vouched on IDEC are some of them. Whatever it was, those teams lost a great chance to be inside of one of the best DotA communities for TOP players.
After the problem involving IDEC and RCPL and false rumors of IDEC being replaced by Pride, the competition was directly affected. In addition to that, half of the teams had already left the competition, leading the manager's decision to close the league.
But what about the main purpose? Not all teams were unmotivated to fight for their vouch on IDEC. Because of that, IDEC managers decided to vouch the best four teams ranked on Earth League:

It's a shame that Earth League had to end this way. But don't matter the odds, these four teams managed to reach their goal and they can now enjoy being part of the Elite of IDEC community.
