Polt defends WCS America crown after 4-1 ByuL

Choi "Polt" Seong Han became the first player in WCS history to win two championships as he took down IM's ByuL in five games last night. His success pushes him to third place in the overall WCS rankings below Innovation and Jaedong.

With ByuL taking the upset over Jaedong and Polt looking to be the first player to win back to back WCS titles, everyone was excited to see what kind of amazing games the grand finals would bring between the two.

A rather short game on Polar Night gave start to the series, Polt made a mistake at the start allowing all of his hellions to die to zerglings. ByuL teched to mutalisks which helped him establish map control, however instead of droning up after his mutalisk harass he used his third base as a macro hatchery, and decided to perform a baneling bust. Polt did not realize what was coming his way until it was too late, his widow mines did not get the hits off that he needed to defend the all-in which forced Polt to GG.

Game two on Frost lasted a bit longer then game one, Polt started off with some amazing early marine/medivac aggression, in which he was able to trade sufficiently with one marine getting away with eleven kills which was promptly named Billy by the casters. Polt held map control for a large part of the game with his widow mine positioning. ByuL however was able to take that control away with a large ball of zergling/mutalisk, however instead of teching into infesters or ultralisk ByuL simply made more mutalisk, which eventually cost him the game, when he managed to snipe one of Polt's expansions, and Polt responded by destroying every mining base ByuL had and decimating his forces with 3/3 upgraded bio, tying up the series 1-1 but at the cost of Billy the Marine.

Game three took place on Akilon Wastes and showcased some impressive plays from both players. Polt started off with the same build he had done the entire series going into starport and making one viking to scout, however ByuL took an fairly early Lair and transitioned into mass mutalisk. Unlike game two ByuL was able to mass a much larger ball of mutalisks, despite multiple excellent engages for ByuL Polt's bio army eventually proved too much for the zerg to handle with a final massive clash of the two armies, ByuL's army of Ultralisk/infestor was crushed by Polt's marine/marauder bio ball.

Game four on Derelict Watcher was by far the longest of the series taking close to 45 minutes to complete. The match started out like the other three before it, Polt's hellions ended up getting caught and killed off fairly early on much like game one. After that the game became a never ending battle of attrition, with both players constantly attempting to push into the other's expansions. Polt continuing to use marine/marauder/medivac forces as well as widow mines, while ByuL largely used mutalisk/baneling to push as well as defend. Eventually both players were down to only one mining base and due to the cost effectiveness of Polt's army he was able to amass a much larger army and destroy ByuL's last mining base as well as what was left of his mutilisk forces and further his lead in the series 3-1.

The final match of the series on Belshir Vestige was much more one sided the most of the previous games, Polt took an early lead with a very agressive marine/medivac push that was extremely cost effective. Polt Continued to further his lead by destroying numerous bases at the cost of nothing. ByuL attempted to hold multiple times but he the amount of banelings he had to use to defend eventually became too much and after a huge widow mine blast took out his entire flock of mutilisks he was forced to GG giving Polt the game and the series 4-1, and making him the first person to win back to back WCS titles.
