Naniwa moves to IEM New York playoffs: "I was less confident playing Hack today"

The last western survivor from day two now earns a quarter final seed as he 2-1's Hack in the Group B decider. Group A also comes to an end after Life defeats Zest through a 2-1 comeback.

Learning from the series they played yesterday, it seemed at first that Zest had had Life's number. Predicting the three-base ling/hydra play on Derelict Watcher, Zest smartly got his colossus count up to make sure he has the most efficient army mix and easily took game one home. Up against the ropes, Life had to secure back-to-back victories to prevent his elimination and fell back to his outstanding macro on Bel'Shir Vestige to tie the game through his enormous roach army. On Polar Night, the StarTale Zerg opted for a double evo lings with hydra support to rush down Zest's third, snipe his colossi and punish the crack in his front wall to pin a 2-1 scoreboard for himself.

The decider match of Group B also paired two players who had already met yesterday, namely Naniwa and Hack. The Korean went for a reaper opening and secured a nice early advantage of himself but getting a bit too greedy in the mid game cost him set one. Naniwa's lead, however, was shortlived as a standard bio play by Hack overwhelmed his for the tie and the series was pushed into a third game on Derelict Watcher. Abandoning all plans of a macro game, Naniwa teched straight to blink off one base and had the fortune to kill 15 SCVs during his first raid. Critically behind in economy, Hack was not able to keep up with the constant stalker warp-ins and a GG was called to advance Naniwa to the playoffs.
