MMA 4-2's MC at the end of WCS Europe Season 3

Acer's MMA triumphed over SK's MC in six games to win the WCS Europe Season 3 premier league. This is the first championship in 18 months for the legendary Terran since Iron Squid I in May 2012.

Game one ended up more or less a standard PvT on Akilon Wastes. MMA took the initiative to apply early pressure and by cancelling MC's natural forced the Protoss to go into 4-gate as a reponse. A perfect scan was thrown a minute later to reveal MC's entire plan and, expectedly, the score went up to 1-0 in MMA's favor.

The next match on Frost turned out a longer one but with an abrupt ending nevertheless. Luckily scouting MC's templar archives allowed MMA to snipe them and freeze the Protoss tech, which in turn opened a huge timing window for MMA to exploit. Surging across the map, the Acer powerhouse hit MC with all his firepower and his lead was quickly doubled.

Game three had MC attempt an 8-gate play with a third nexus behind that. For long minute, the macro machine was working fine for the Protoss until his decision to walk down the ramp with his sentry/stalker army. As soon as he showed his nose outside the door, MC was met by the stimmed bio force of MMA and unable to escape the deadly concave the face of SK was put a game away from elimination.

An attempt for an easy fourth win through a proxy reaper build gave MC a fighting chance on Yeonsu. Easily fending off the Terran nuisance gave MC the opportunity to initiate a stalker/MSC counter pressure combined with a proxied oracle which eventually lessened MMA's lead to just two games. Another quick victory for the Protoss would follow - this time brought by a proxy void ray/gateway aggression - and suddenly the series would become thrillingly close.

Much appropriately, game six would be a nail-biter. Not wanting to go for a macro game whatsoever, MC takes a 1-base blink all-in to MMA's fast CC but a series of sloppy mistakes - namely failing to snipe MMA's scouting SCV and carelessly losing his initial MSC - put him in a bad position even before the first shots are fired. Despite fighting valinantly to overcome the army deficit, the stalwart defense of MMA would prove too much for the SK Protoss to overcome.

For MMA, this is his first gold medal since he stood atop Iron Squid I during the May of 2012, while for MC this is a second WCS Europe silver in a row. Both players' spots for the world finals are secure with more opportunities to climb up the earnings and points rankings available for them at the Season 3 finals at the end of October.
