Considered the underdog of his Ro16 group, Norwegian Zerg TargA pulled off a surprising 4-1 score over Happy and Welmu to become the first player to qualify for the premier playoffs.
Targa's success in the Ro16 comes after his triumph over notable European players Naniwa and ToD in the previous group stage and the Norwegian successfully made it to playoffs after killing two more European yesterday. Dodging DreamHack champion StarDust, TargA opened with a 2-0 against Happy and his stunning 69% TvZ win rate and moved on to 2-1 Welmu in his weakest match-up.
The lone Korean in the group did manage to move on to playoffs eventually as well. After losing 0-2 to Welmu in the opening match, StarDust had to fight for survival against Happy in the losers match and a 2-1 score against the Russian won him another round of games. In the deciding series, StarDust was paired with his rival from earlier before and this time around the Korean was spotless against the Finnish Protoss. A 2-0 scoreboard marked the end of Welmu's run in WCS Europe and qualified StarDust for the quarter finals.
