The games
A few hours away from championship Sunday, MLG Spring 2013 is at a familiar sight. While several foreigners did come out of the early rounds with strong showings, the Korean force is once again ruling, looking forward to taking yet another MLG.
Sase, HuK, qxc and Naniwa were the only non-Koreans to reach the final bracket but three of them did not live long into it. The Americans fell in Losers Round 7 and said good bye to the competition in Anaheim, while Sase managed to claw his way to LR 8 only to lose 0-2 to StarTale's Sound.
This leaves Naniwa as the only foreign hope. The Swede scored a flawless 8-0 run in the early rounds before falling 0-2 to Polt in WR5, which sent him down to the losers bracket. There, he played and eliminated TheSTC 2-0 and will open the final day of MLG with a revenge match against Jaedong. The Korean could not overcome Naniwa at DreamHack Stockholm and was barred from the grand final there so EG's star Zerg will be looking to set things right.
A highlight of the evening was the matchup between HerO and Hyun, at the time HerO had only dropped one map throughout the tournament. Game one Hyun went for an interesting play getting an extremely early hive and going for a viper/roach/hydralisk attack that was able to catch HerO off guard and take game one. Game two HerO refused to let Hyun get to hive tech by hitting a fantastic timing and sniping Hyun's third. HerO then teched into void rays and high templar which let him walk over Hyun's army of hydralisk/roaches. Game three was extremely back and forth with HerO starting off with a cannon rush that barely missed taking out Hyun's natural. Hyun then tried to go viper/roach/hydralisk but he took a bad engagement and his army was decimated by HerO. HerO then went to push into Hyun's third but was caught out of position and lost a large amount of his army trying to get away. The game proceeded to shift back and forth untill a final battle with HerO's army of stalkers/immortals/colossus against Hyun's ultralisk/roach army. HerO was able to hold but Hyun was able to remax on ultralisk and take game three and the series 2:1.
