Another pre-WCG interview. This time of the Singapore national WCG winner, a Zerg player. This is his second WCG final and he welcomes everyone to Singapore.

His aka was Singapore FightAsjuke during 2003 WCG when he won first place in the Singapore national WCG event; well he is back again, one more try at the glory. Last year he could not participate because he was stuck in the army, now his back but he still has to finish up his military service. He more known as Singapore Jukebox80. This time however his country will be hosting WCG. His MSN quote currently is "My fellow StarCraft foreign friends, welcome to Singapore!" which already shows the Singapore spirit. No unpleasant visa issues this time.

We obtained the following interview basically through GG.net member power.
South Korea Nal_CrayOn set it up and Canada KnighT-of-StaR got volunteered to do the interview. We added the total number of questions of: 2*

What is your name, nationality and age?
Hi, my name is Gordon Hoi, I am a Singaporean and I am 19. More important, I am Zerg.

Fear! How readily prepared for the finals at WCG would you say you are this year? And how many hours of practice per day would you say?
Well I play like a few hrs a day, maybe 3-4 or sometimes less.

How well prepared would u say you are and what is your confidence level at this point?
Hmm I have no idea but I will do my best at the my group, at least get a single win.

I am sure u will, what are your favorite WCG maps this year?
My favorite map are "any land maps"

So you dislike islands?
Except islands, yea because I am Zerg

In your opinion would you say Zerg is at a disadvantage on island maps? And why?
Yes as they can’t fast expand and they are weaker by nature, compared to the other races.

When did you start playing starcraft and when did you realize you were good enough to compete. When were you noticed?
I started at 1998 but was playing with comps and started playing competitive at 2001 but that at time I was still a noob, so I took a year to train and in 2002 I came in 1st runner up and I met crayOn and he taught me more stuff.

Any memorable matches from the time you started to the present? Or any favorite plays?
Err, yea I played tester..[gm] back long time ago but I lost 1-2! It was 2 or 3 years ago but I still remember the moment.

In your opinion who would be the "milestone" starcraft player and who is the best today in your opinion, any role models?
You mean outside of Korea or Korea itself?

Any.
I would say boxer he made the way possible for pro-gaming today and brought StarCraft to a totally new level.

Is it different this year for you, now that Singapore is the host city?* Have they put more support this year for you guys, specifically Starcraft gamers?*
Well , I would say its the same emphasis for all the games not only sc, my country hope to at least win a medal , doesn’t matter whatever game it is, but my country has put in more effort I must say .

Would you say now that starcraft plays a large role in your life or is it still a second best to say family or friends.. In other words is it a job or do you still have time for other things
Well, I would still classify it as a passion, I would still have to balance school work, StarCraft, family and other stuff.

Do you intend to further your education at all or just go into work after all this?
After this, I would have to go army next year and probably stop StarCraft. I will further my education after I am out of army, its compulsory for all males in my country and we have to serve 2 years

That’s long! Enjoy or Endure. Do you ever play any other games, other than StarcCraft? Or now that you are on a professional level is StarCraft your game of choice?
Yea, I played mostly other Blizzard games like d2 & tft but they can’t replace StarCraft!

What caught your eye with starcraft? What do you think makes it the best game?
I think it’s the most balanced game since the time when RTS were created, there is a counter to every strategy and no imbalance of races (although z > p little)!

Well then shouts outs to GG.net?
Yea, good job GG.net for the continuous effort for StarCraft news. And to everyone: StarCraft forever!

Thank you!
Okay, I got to rush to the player village. Cya all, wish me luck!

Good luck to you and the whole Singapore team! Get that medal!
