After weeks of excitement, the Intel Extreme Masters PUBG Invitational has come a close, bringing you the very first IEM Oakland champions. It’s time for you to welcome aAa Gaming into the PUBG hall of fame.
After making their way from the tournament’s qualifiers, to the playoffs, aAa Gaming was one of the teams to catch the attention of the crowd. Plus, with the team already having a title to its name, they were one of the strongest of the lot. But, even then with squads like FaZe clan, Tempo Storm, and Luminosity Gaming competing, no one expected them to take the championship title.
However, with how Day One kicked off, aAa Gaming proved it to everyone watching that they are ones not to take lightly. The team secured the third spot in the first round where Digital Chaos and Tempo Storm took the first and second spot, respectively.
And if that was not enough, to further cement its position, aAa Gaming came in second during the third round, bringing them into the tournament’s top three. That being said, at the end of day one, it was Team SoloMid who had the most points and hence stood at the number one spot on the scoreboard at day’s end.
Sunday was a whole other story as the day took off with Team Liquid taking the first win of the day. This win gave Team Liquid the points it needed to make up for the gap and hence, make its way to second place, from its previous tenth position.
With a new threat in play, aAa knew what they had to do. Hence, in the tournament’s sixth round, the team showcased a more controlled play which allowed them to safely place first. The 300 points from the win were enough for the team to take the number one spot on the tournament’s overall scoreboard. However, with Tempo Gaming and Ghost Gaming right behind them, the team had to make some points to safeguard its spot.
After coming in sixth in the final two rounds, aAa Gaming boasted a score of 1620. This was enough to top the scoreboard, allowing the team to win the IEM Oakland PUBG Invitational and take home the coveted PUBG Trophy.
