PUBG Mobile version 4.2 brings a wide range of updates, including Primewood Genesis-themed vehicles, a smart assistant, new loot, and a unique portal mechanic.
Brace yourself for a wave of new content as PUBG Mobile’s 4.2 update launches on 7 January. Titled Primewood Genesis, the update introduces a transformed battlefield plagued with corrupted and ominous flora alongside a host of exciting new features. Version 4.2 will be available until 10 March.
KRAFTON has also teased upcoming events as part of the update, including the return of Anniversary and April Fool’s items, and events such as Crazy Chicken Day and the Skyhigh Spectacle mode. The press release further hints at an upcoming collaboration with “an iconic series” arriving soon.
Everything new in the PUBG Mobile 4.2 update
The Primewood Genesis update adds more hot drop locations, spreading players across the map and making early gameplay slightly safer. While this reduces early-game chaos, it may be a drawback for players who enjoy immediate clashes. Five locations now feature hot drops: Pochinki, Yasnaya Polyana, Military Base, Georgopol, and Mylta.
Players can also recruit a smart ally called Barkle on Erangel and Livik. Barkle acts as a protective companion, assisting in combat and defense. Additionally, players can plant Buds, which grow into contestable fruits in the next match. These fruits can be contested by other players and offer valuable loot and supplies, including the possibility of obtaining Barkle.
As players purify the map, two Primewood-themed abilities become available. The Scorpion Horn summons the Bramblewood Scorpion, a two-player vehicle capable of burrowing underground for temporary immunity while also possessing offensive abilities.
Another new feature, Targeting Vines, creates a temporary protective barrier before launching controllable vines that can restrain enemies or vehicles.
One of the most striking additions is the Prime Eye Portal, which provides a bird’s-eye view of the map. Appearing at each hot drop location after roughly four minutes, the portal emerges from a massive blue gate and acts as a powerful teleporter, allowing players to mark and land at a chosen location from above.
World of Wonder and Home mode improvements
World of Wonder Version 4.2 introduces smarter creation tools and enhanced gameplay. You will be able to use a more flexible AI assistant, new enemies and items, and improvements to templates, sharing, and translation.
Meanwhile, Home mode receives the elegant Rose Mansion style, new rewards, and a Parking Lot gameplay season. Players can also participate in Home Competitions, where they create and vote on home designs to earn points, rewards, and even cash prizes.
New weapon arrives in Metro Royale
On 8 January, Metro Royale Chapter 30 will introduce a new Fabled melee weapon, the Glacix Arbiter. Available across all seasons, the weapon also supports gifting between friends.
Additional updates to the mode include increased damage for select rifles, improved FAMAS magazine compatibility, more sellable items, new Vine Crates, and other balance changes.
Season 28 changes and long-term adjustments
With the arrival of the new season comes enhancements and changes to the ranked system, set to launch on 11 January. In the next six months, KRAFTON will focus on rewarding players for consistency in high-level performance rather than irregular results. You can earn a Season Series Medal, which you can customize with different parts. Each part shows something different, like how active you are, how skilled you are, and how long you’ve stayed competitive.
You can earn rewards by completing Continuous Challenges and Trial Challenges. Keep playing at a high rank every season to complete Continuous Challenges. Meanwhile, Trial Challenges let you earn points to upgrade your medal, which rewards you with Season Series Tokens. You can spend the tokens in a special shop for exclusive rewards, including older limited-time items.
Season 28 introduces a rating protection event to reduce major rank losses and makes the Path of Glory easier to progress through. Players from Platinum to Ace Dominator now receive tier-specific rewards. But for Ace and higher, it will be more challenging, requiring multiple consecutive high-ranking TPP Squad matches, with progress tracked through upgraded Glory Badges.
