Multiplayer chaos descends on the Spire.
Prepare for co-op mayhem in the next Spire climb. Mega Crit have dropped a new animated trailer for Slay the Spire II, confirming its long-awaited Early Access release on Steam in March, and fully fledged four-player co-op mode. The reveal offers the clearest look yet at how the sequel reshapes the climb, introducing co-operative combat, new systems, and a far more volatile Spire.
The trailer opens with a lone hero falling in battle before allies arrive moments later, setting the tone for the game’s new cooperative focus. Gameplay clips showcase four-player encounters in action, while Mega Crit explained in a Steam blog post that co-op will introduce “multiplayer-specific cards and powerful team synergies”, designed to reward coordination and shared decision-making rather than solo optimisation.
Slay the Spire II will have four-player co-op multiplayer
According to Mega Crit, Early Access will introduce a sweeping overhaul of the original formula, with new characters, enemies, environments, cards, relics, potions, events, abilities, and alternate acts. The studio added that more content, including “cards, events, environments, enemies, and more”, will be rolled out and balanced throughout Early Access, allowing the experience to evolve alongside player feedback.
“Your wait is nearly over. The Spire awakens once more,” the developers said, adding that players can now “team up to face the Spire’s challenges together in an all-new co-op mode”. They also highlighted how multiplayer will reshape each run, as squads discover exclusive card interactions, build layered synergies, and adapt together to unpredictable combat scenarios.
The footage hints at several new mechanics that twist the rhythm of the original game, introducing faster combat pacing, more volatile encounters, and deeper strategic layering across multiple players. The trailer also briefly teases an additional unrevealed character, suggesting that more announcements are still to come.
An official description for Slay the Spire II sets the narrative tone for the sequel: “For 1,000 years, the Spire lay dormant, its secrets buried and its horrors forgotten. Now, it has reopened, hungrier and more dangerous than ever, devouring all who dare to ascend.”
It continues: “New perils demand sharper strategies, relentless cunning, and unwavering resolve. Outwit the Spire’s brutal trials and uncover the truths hidden at its peak.”
Mega Crit also confirmed that players will climb alongside a mix of new and returning characters, each with their own cards, motives, and secrets. Along the way, they will explore all-new environments, face formidable foes, and uncover fragments of the Spire’s long-buried past, either solo or with friends.
Slay the Spire II was first revealed in 2024 as the follow-up to Mega Crit’s genre-defining 2019 hit. With Early Access now locked in for March, players will soon be able to dive back into one of PC gaming’s most influential deckbuilders, this time with friends in tow.
