Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen launch pre-orders on Nintendo Switch
The Pokémon Company is officially launching re-releases of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen for Nintendo Switch consoles next week, on 27 February, 2026. 27 February, 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Pokémon Red and Green, and thus the 30th anniversary of the franchise as a whole.
Both Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen were originally released for Game Boy Advance in 2004, updating the original Kanto region-set story, characters, and Pokémon with updated graphics and full-colour art. Additionally, both versions introduced the Sevii Islands, containing more Pokémon, which will be included in the re-releases.
Players will also be able to participate in local multiplayer features, like Pokémon trading, battles, and more. It’s currently unclear if more additional content from the original games, like Birth Island and additional Pokémon encounters, will also be included in these re-releases.
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are now available for pre-orders on the Nintendo Switch, and will officially launch following the premiere of a Pokémon Presents stream happening on 27 February, 2026 at 6am PST.
