Have no fear, Amy Rose is here!
Sonic’s cinematic universe is about to get a major fan-favourite addition. After her brief cameo in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Amy Rose is officially joining the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and will be voiced by Kristen Bell, best known for her role as Anna in Frozen.
The news was revealed this week via Instagram, where Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz shared a photo of the pair holding figures of their characters, confirming Bell’s casting ahead of the film’s 19 March 2027 release. You can see the post here:
Amy Rose joins Sonic’s expanding film universe
Fans first saw Amy at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where she appeared just in time to save Sonic from a swarm of Metal Sonics. In the games, Amy is one of Sonic’s most loyal allies, and famously determined when it comes to winning his affection, making her a major addition to the live-action series.
The Sonic films have steadily expanded their roster, bringing in characters from across the franchise’s long history. Knuckles the Echidna and Shadow the Hedgehog have already made the leap to the big screen, while Sonic continues his ongoing battle against Doctor Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey. Along the way, he’s built a strong partnership with his human ally Tom, portrayed by James Marsden.
Since the first film launched in 2020, the franchise has become one of the most successful video game adaptations to date, blending fast-paced action with humour and fan-favourite lore. Kristen Bell, best known for voicing Anna in Disney’s Frozen films and starring in Veronica Mars and fantasy-comedy The Good Place, now steps into one of Sega’s most recognisable roles.
With Amy officially in the line-up, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 looks set to continue building out its ever-growing universe when it hits cinemas in 19 March 2027.
