Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2

Switch 2 players can now enjoy a remastered version of Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Monolith Soft has launched Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, a remaster of the original 2015 game, alongside a long-awaited dedicated Switch 2 edition.

In this remastered version, there will be no more pixelated battles. Via Nintendo's announcement trailer, it's revealed that players can experience the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition with up to 4K resolution on TV mode, and up to 1080p resolution on handheld mode–with both boasting faster frame rates, running up to 60fps.

According to the game's listing on Nintendo's store, this edition will also include upgraded visuals, added story elements, updated gameplay, added optimisation options for Nintendo Switch 2, and more.

This shadow drop also revealed a significant update, allowing Nintendo Switch 2 players to experience the game on the platform for the first time.

Users can purchase digital copies of the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on the Nintendo eShop and the My Nintendo Store for US$64.99. If you already own Xenoblade Chronicles X on Nintendo Switch, you can grab the Upgrade Pack for US$4.99 to add the remastered version on Switch 2. Nintendo has also revealed an upcoming physical version confirmed for 16 April.

For those unfamiliar, Xenoblade Chronicles X was one of the most popular action RPGs in 2015, earning itself a nomination at The Game Awards’ the following year.

The game takes you to the year 2054, when Earth has been destroyed due to an immense intergalactic war, forcing the surviving human race to flee in massive ark ships. One of it crashes into planet Mira–and that’s where you, a customisable protagonist, attempt to maneuver the dangerous environment and embark on a mission to save humanity.

Initially launched on the Nintendo Wii U, the game was ported to the Nintendo Switch in March 2025. Now, players can enjoy the remastered version of the game on the platform's successor just a year later.
