Map two of the ELEAGUE Major grand final saw a record amount of concurrent viewers, beating the previous record of 890,000.
With the ELEAGUE Major concluded, Senior Esports Manager at Twitch.tv, Christian Tamas tweeted out that during the second map of the grand final match between Astralis vs. Virtus.pro, a record amount of concurrent viewers was established, peaking at over 1,026,000. Not only did this beat the previous 890,000 record established at ESL One: Cologne 2016, it also happened to beat the record for largest amount of concurrent viewers on a single channel.
With the event also broadcast on television the total number would be much higher even than the 1.02m stated, and the figures speak to a perfect storm of success for Turner-WME/IMG and their eSports enterprise. The production values at least matched anything we've seen in eSports of course, and the talent was also on show with big names on comms and the analyst desk, but ELEAGUE were also blessed with some godlike Counter-Strike.
The storyline of Virtus.pro, the longest constant line-up at this level and major winners in 2014, versus the young Danes of Astralis was a gift, and the play towards the end of the event can only be described as ridiculous. ELEAGUE couldn't have asked for much more, and as fans we've been blessed with a great new addition to the calendar.
