Meanwhile, LOS' Worlds 2026 campaign comes to an end after falling short in the final round of the Swiss Stage.
The final round of the League of Legends World Championship 2026 Swiss Stage continued with another battle for survival, as North America's second seed
LYON faced off against Brazil's CBLOL champions
LOS.
With both teams holding 2-2 records, only one could advance to the Knockout Stage, while the other would be eliminated from the tournament. Aside from just advancing to the main event, LOS were notably looking to become the first-ever CBLOL team to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
But in the end, it was LYON who emerged victorious over LOS in three games to secure their spot in the Knockout Stage and end their opponents' Worlds 2026 campaign.
Both teams entered the final round after promising starts and difficult setbacks, with their hopes of reaching the Knockout Stage now hanging in the balance. LYON started their campaign strong, defeating LCP first seed
Team Secret Whale (TSW) in Round 1 before taking down
Karmine Corp (KC) to secure a 2-0 record. However, their momentum came to a halt when they suffered a reverse sweep against LCK first seed Gen.G in Round 3. The North American squad then suffered another 2-1 defeat against
Shanghai Invictus Gaming (IG) in Round 4, leaving them with one final opportunity to qualify.
Meanwhile, LOS have become one of the biggest underdog stories of Worlds 2026. The Brazilian squad had initially qualified for promotion as a guest team in the CBLOL before going on to win the domestic championship, despite fielding a relatively inexperienced roster. Their journey at Worlds, however, got off to a difficult start, suffering back-to-back defeats against reigning world champions
T1 and
G2 Esports.
Despite finding themselves on the brink of elimination with a 0-2 record, LOS defied expectations by sweeping TSW in Round 3, becoming the first CBLOL team to win a best-of-three series at Worlds. They continued their remarkable run by eliminating LCS first seed
Team Liquid Alienware (TLAW) in Round 4, securing another historic victory and keeping their Worlds campaign alive.
Here's how the matches went.
LOS overcome LYON in Game 1 to take the series lead
The opening game began on relatively even footing, with both teams trading kills across the map and neither side able to establish a commanding advantage. However, LOS gradually began to find small victories through aggressive team fights and flanks, allowing them to build a gold lead despite LYON maintaining a degree of control over the game.
While LYON continued to look for opportunities to regain the advantage, LOS were increasingly finding success in their engagements. Their aggression eventually paid off around the Baron pit, where Raí “Curse” Yamada secured the objective for LOS. The Brazilian squad followed up by taking down four members of LYON, giving them a significant advantage and an opportunity to push towards their opponents' base.
With LYON unable to recover from the fight, LOS maintained their momentum and marched into the North American squad's base, destroying the Nexus after 34 minutes with an 11-8 kill lead to take the first game of the series.
LYON mount a massive comeback against LOS in Game 2
LOS carried their momentum into the second game, immediately taking control of the early game and building a massive 6,000 gold lead. LYON found themselves struggling to keep up with the Brazilian squad's aggression, with LOS continuing to extend their advantage while both teams traded Dragon objectives.
With the game slipping away, LYON desperately tried to find a way back, focusing on getting more gold onto Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol and the rest of their carries. However, LOS continued to maintain control of the map and eventually secured the Baron, putting even more pressure on the North American squad.
LYON were forced to play defensively, avoiding direct engagements with LOS while looking for opportunities to apply pressure elsewhere on the map. As LOS contested for Dragon Soul point, LYON continued to search for ways to close the gap despite playing from behind. LOS eventually secured another Baron and attempted to push into LYON's base, but the North American representatives managed to hold their ground and defend their Nexus.
As LYON gradually caught up in gold and items, Berserker began to find more opportunities to make an impact in team fights. The North American squad's efforts to keep their carries in the game were finally beginning to pay off, allowing them to challenge LOS more effectively despite still trailing in gold.
The fight for the Mountain Soul became one of the most crucial moments of the game. With both teams contesting the objective, Berserker managed to dodge LOS' attacks and stay alive long enough to turn the fight in LYON's favour. This allowed the North American squad to claim the Mountain Soul and finally begin mounting a comeback.
With their newfound advantage, LYON managed to open up LOS' base, but instead of committing to the final push, they reset to prepare for another Baron contest. By this point, LOS' once-commanding gold advantage had diminished to just 3,000, giving LYON a much better chance of turning the game around.
Another crucial fight broke out around the Baron pit, with both teams taking down two members of the opposing side. Neither squad could capitalise on the exchange, forcing both teams to reset as the contest for control of the map continued.
The game descended into an increasingly tense back-and-forth battle, with LYON continuing to apply pressure across the map while both teams fought for control of the Baron. However, LYON's minion waves were beginning to push into LOS' base, forcing the Brazilian squad to divide their attention between defending their structures and contesting objectives.
With the Elder Dragon spawning, another critical confrontation unfolded. Three members of LYON faced off against four members of LOS, with the North American squad managing to catch Kim “ZEST” Dong-min during the engagement. Meanwhile, two members of LYON were already threatening LOS' base, taking advantage of the pressure their team had built across the map.
Unable to stop the split pressure, LOS watched as LYON destroyed their Nexus after an exhausting 47-minute battle. Despite both teams finishing with nine kills apiece, LYON completed an incredible comeback despite their gold deficit to equalise the series 1-1 and force a deciding third game.
LYON overpower LOS in Game 3 to secure the Knockout Stage spot
For the first time in the series, LYON found themselves with an early-game advantage, claiming first blood before continuing to make aggressive plays in the jungle. LOS attempted to fight back, but the North American squad stood strong, maintaining control throughout the laning phase with all three lanes winning their respective matchups.
However, LOS were not about to go down without a fight. Despite LYON's strong start, the Brazilian squad managed to find several kills and prevent their opponents from securing bigger objectives across the map. This kept LYON from running away with the game, giving LOS opportunities to gradually close the gap.
Their persistence eventually paid off when LOS found a crucial pick in the mid lane, allowing them to catch up to LYON's gold lead. They then managed to catch Berserker in the mid lane, opening up an opportunity to secure the Baron and turn the momentum in their favour.
With Baron-empowered minions pushing into LYON's base, LOS continued their aggression, looking to take down more members of the North American squad in the jungle. They managed to eliminate Berserker once again, but LYON fought back and turned the engagement around, taking down multiple members of LOS to prevent them from capitalising on their advantage.
Berserker then began to come up big in the following team fights, cleaning up members of LOS and allowing LYON to push forward and break open the Brazilian squad's mid lane base. With their opponents gaining ground, LOS continued to look for opportunities to contest objectives and keep themselves in the game.
Another crucial confrontation eventually broke out around the Baron pit, where LOS attempted to turn the tides once more. However, Kang “Saint” Sung-in came up huge for LYON, saving his team from a potentially disastrous fight and allowing them to turn the engagement in their favour.
With LOS unable to stop their advance, LYON secured the Baron and pushed towards the Brazilian squad's base. The North American representatives eventually destroyed the Nexus after 36 minutes with a commanding 16-7 kill lead, completing the 2-1 series victory.
With their win, LYON have secured one of the final three spots in the Worlds 2026 Knockout Stage, advancing to the top eight teams of the tournament.
Meanwhile, LOS bow out of Worlds 2026 in 9th–11th place, having fallen short of qualification in the final round of the Swiss Stage, taking home US$175,000.
