Meanwhile, MKOI's Worlds 2026 campaign comes to an end after falling short in the final round of the Swiss Stage.
The final round of the League of Legends World Championship 2026 Swiss Stage is underway, with the remaining teams fighting for the last three spots in the Knockout Stage.
The opening matchup saw an all-LEC showdown between third seed
Karmine Corp (KC) and second seed
Movistar KOI (MKOI), with both teams facing elimination. In the end, KC emerged victorious by sweeping MKOI, 2-0, to secure their spot in the Knockout Stage and end their fellow European representatives' Worlds 2026 campaign.
Both teams had taken very different paths to reach the final round of the Swiss Stage. KC had fought their way through the Play-In Stage to claim the last remaining Swiss Stage spot before stunning LPL first seed
Anyone's Legend (AL) in their opening match. However, the LEC's third seed suffered back-to-back defeats against LYON and
Bilibili Gaming (BLG), putting them on the brink of elimination. KC managed to bounce back against
CTBC Flying Oyster (CFO) in Round 4, keeping their hopes of reaching the Knockout Stage alive.
Meanwhile, MKOI enjoyed a much stronger start to their Swiss Stage campaign, upsetting BLG in Round 1 before defeating CFO to secure a 2-0 record. However, their momentum came to a halt when they were swept by
Dplus KIA (DK) in Round 3. The LEC's second seed then suffered another 2-0 defeat against reigning world champions T1, leaving them with one final opportunity to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
Here's how the matches went.
Karmine Corp survive Movistar KOI's comeback attempts in Game 1
KC started the opening game with an early gold advantage, securing the first two Dragons while keeping MKOI from finding opportunities to take control of the map. Although the game remained relatively quiet in terms of kills, KC managed to find a pick in the midgame to maintain their lead.
However, MKOI gradually began to turn things around, finding more kills and winning team fights as the game progressed. Their Zeri-Yuumi combination came up big during these engagements, allowing MKOI to fight back and take control of several crucial skirmishes. KC nevertheless managed to find a pick while contesting the Dragon, giving them the opportunity to secure the Infernal Soul despite MKOI's growing momentum.
The two teams continued to trade blows, with neither side willing to give up control of the Summoner's Rift. A major fight eventually broke out around the Baron pit, where KC came out on top, taking down most of MKOI's members and securing the objective. The victory gave KC another opportunity to push their advantage, but MKOI were far from finished.
With the Elder Dragon spawning, another crucial team fight erupted around the objective. This time, MKOI emerged victorious, swinging the momentum and power back in their favour. What had initially looked like KC's game became an increasingly tense back-and-forth battle, with both teams finding opportunities to regain control.
The encounter continued until another Elder Dragon spawned, setting the stage for yet another decisive clash. KC finally managed to come out on top, winning the fight and opening up an opportunity to secure the Baron.
With the advantage back in their hands, KC pushed towards MKOI's base and destroyed the Nexus after 39 minutes, taking the opening game despite trailing 13-14 in kills.
Karmine Corp dominate Movistar KOI in Game 2 to complete the sweep
KC came out swinging in the second game, establishing an early advantage and immediately putting MKOI on the defensive. Unlike the closely contested opening game, the LEC's third seed were firmly in control from the beginning, finding favourable fights and extending their lead across the map.
MKOI attempted to find opportunities to fight back and slow their opponents' momentum, but KC continued to come out on top in their engagements. Every attempt to regain control was met with more aggression from KC, who maintained their dominance throughout the early and midgame.
Martin “Yike” Sundalin and
Caliste “Caliste” Henry-Hennebert were particularly impressive, coming up big for KC as they continued to secure kills and widen the gap between the two teams. With MKOI struggling to find an answer to their opponents' aggression, KC maintained complete control of the game, leaving the LEC's second seed with very few opportunities to make a comeback.
By the 25-minute mark, KC had amassed a massive 14,000 gold lead and a commanding 17-4 kill advantage. With MKOI unable to stop their advance, KC pushed through their opponents' base and destroyed the Nexus, completing the 2-0 sweep and securing their place in the Knockout Stage.
With their win, Karmine Corp have secured one of the final three spots in the Worlds 2026 Knockout Stage, completing an impressive journey from the Play-In Stage to the top eight teams of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Movistar KOI bow out of Worlds 2026 in 9th–11th place, having fallen short of qualification despite their promising start to the Swiss Stage. They bow out of the competition in 9th to 11th place, taking home US$175,000 in consolation.
