Adjustments to Team League restriction aim to improve player experience

Hero leagues change to only solo queue was supposed to help Team League grow in popularity. Looks like there is still more changes that need to be done to make that happen.

Today, a Heroes of the Storm community manager made this post on the official battle.net forums:

With today’s patch we’ve loosened the Team League party restrictions and will now allow placement players to group with those who have already received a rank. We’ve also removed the tier restrictions on parties of 2 and 3 players so that groups can be formed regardless of each players’ current rank. While we may re-implement this restriction later, we wanted to test out how this change affects Team League queues and match quality.

This solves some problems that the most recent change to Hero League and Team League queue requires created:

  • Not every friend you wished to play Team league with were finished with their placement matches. This made it much harder for veteran Team league players to group with players new to the mode. This requirement has been removed.

  • Parties of 2 and 3 can now play with anyone, regardless of their current rank. This also is aimed at helping veteran players play with their lower ranked friends.

The goal is to increase the dreadful match quality and long queue times that Team League is currently suffering from. This popular Reddit thread is just one of the countless times the community has voiced frustrations over the format.

If Blizzard manages to "fix" Team League for good, it would be a huge win for Heroes. Everyone usually agrees the most fun part of Heroes is when you are playing with a team of friends, so it is only natural that the Team League mode should be less of a second choice and more of a primary game mode.
