Huge upsets in China’s Gold Series Heroes League bring new Chinese representatives at Blizzcon

The Gold Series Heroes League had a major shakeup as longstanding Chinese powerhouse eStar Gaming did not qualify for Blizzcon.

In the losers’ finals, eStar faced the formidable Zero Gaming to decide who would join Super Perfect Team as the two representatives for Blizzcon 2016. Despite a dominant game 1 victory, eStar dropped the next three games and lost the series 1-3.

Game 3 was the most critical game of the series. Although eStar dominated the game with an Illidan-centered composition, their overzealousness portended their eventual collapse. eStar attempted to end the game a little too early. Consequently, they failed and suffered a full team wipe, allowing Zero to immediately retaliate and win the game. In game 4, Zero capitalized on eStar’s dejection from the previous game and dominated, securing their spot at Blizzcon.

In the grand finals, Zero avenged their previous loss to Super Perfect Team with a straight-forward 4-1 victory. As a result, Zero Gaming secured China’s #1 seed, meaning they will get an immediate spot in the second group stage phase of Blizzcon. Super Perfect Team, conversely, will have to play in the first group stage phase before they can join their fellow Chinese team in the second stage.
