Team Liquid takes home the EU Open #2 title, but Bob? takes home the fame. These teams and Gamers2 have qualified for the Europe Regional Championship.
Team Liquid has taken back their undisputed place on top of the EU scene. After a slump in performance at Gamescom, TL is currently building up a winstreak once again. Last weekend’s matches were no different. Team Liquid advanced to the final series after defeating Hurones as well as the top teams Na’Vi and Gamers2, but showed a surprising amount of 2-1 results.
Bob Question Mark, Bob? for short, lost to Gamers2 in the second round which dropped them to the Lower Bracket. This did not stop their run however, as they consequently took care of Meet Your Makers, Na’vi and then Gamers2 to make it back to the final series. Bob?’s strength lies in their ability to pull out a variety of different strategies successfully. They played double tank compositions in most of their games, but prioritized Tyrael and Arthas a surprising amount. Bob Question Mark also pulled out wins with Azmodan and Illidan/Abathur compositions.
Team Liquid vs. Bob Question Mark - Game 1 - Dragon Shire
When Bob? met up with TL in the finals, game 1 of the Bo3 was won by Team Liquid through some solid plays by Blackscorp’s Zeratul. We previously reported on a prime example of Blackscorp’s Zeratul gameplay, and it is surprising that Zeratul was not banned in either the first or the second round of bans.
Team Liquid vs. Bob Question Mark - Game 2 - Tomb of the Spider Queen
Game 2 started off with a Zeratul ban from Bob Question Mark, and they were allowed to pick Jaina and Kael’thas. Both teams picked up two warriors (Johanna and Muradin for TL, Tyrael and Arthas for Bob?) and Team Liquid surprised with a Kerrigan pick. After a good number of Illidans and Zeratuls, Blackscorp took up Kerrigan for the first time during the tournament.
But Bob?’s combination of slows and damage proved too much for TL’s composition that relied on Kerrigan’s damage too much. After the first moment of opportunity, Bob? went for the boss and used its presence to even the score 1-1.
Team Liquid vs. Bob Question Mark - Game 3 - Sky Temple
The final game of the EU Open #2 saw Blackscorp on yet another melee assassin in the form of Illidan while Bob Question Mark got to pick up Zeratul.
Game 3 was the tensest game of the finals, seeing only a slight experience lead for Bob? during most of the game. But after some key decision making by Team Liquid, and a moment of weakness from their opponents, TL manages to kill most of Bob?’s heroes and destroy the core.
Team Liquid, Bob Question Mark and Gamers2 won their tickets to the Europe Championship, and we will see them compete against Na’Vi, Virtus.Pro and Team ROCCAT in Prague in October. Two more teams will also be able to compete in Prague; who that will be depends on the third and final EU Open. Signing up for that final Open is still possible, and if you are interested you can find more information on ESL’s website.
As a final thought, take a look at this statistic that /u/Shanwerd shared on reddit.
