Journey to super saiyan: Goku speaks on preparing for combat

Base image sourced through ESL.

This past weekend the North American HotS scene was on fire as the 8 best teams from around the country battled it out for a trip to Korea. The nonstop competition and 12-hour streams left viewers little to imagine what was occurring behind the scenes.

During the tournament, Tempo Storm talent, and newly recruited player, Goku, took some time to answer a few of our questions. Here is some insight into the experience facing a new pro at the beginning of his biggest championship yet.

You're a fairly new face to some hardcore Tempo Storm fans. Can you tell us a little bit about your experience in the Heroes scene?

My introduction to competitive scene was from a team named Goon Squad which eventually became Luminosity Gaming. We competed last year's regional qualifier and came so close but falling short due to some issues. After the falling of Goon Squad I had decided to join team Bang Bang with Tigerjk, after a couple of weeks and not many big tournaments to compete in the team broke up and at that point I was given an opportunity to try out for Tempo Storm.

What has it been like for you, personally, since officially joining the team?

It has been great experience so far and this is the start to my journey, being able to compete at the top level in a short amount of time feels great, I can easily connect with the team while creating synergy, and continue to become better with my role and easily be the best melee assassin player in NA.

How has the synergy of the team progressed since Kaeyoh has taken the reigns of team captain?

The synergy has been steadily getting better compared to how we were at the beginning. I believe there is a lot of improvement, but we're slowly adapting and understanding what each player wants to do in certain team fight scenarios. Kaeyoh has been fantastic, as a captain he is open minded to a lot of differential draft styles that may seem not as good at the start, but with some time and practice it turns out good in the end.

What moment/match/victory leading up to the Spring Regionals had you guys feeling like the new team was really starting to mesh together well?

I feel like our performance at Heroes Rising showed our potential by being able to take off games from Team Naventic and Cloud 9.

Does anyone on the team (or the team as a whole) have any pre-game rituals? Especially for LAN events?

Our support player Zixz is our hype man before and during the matches, he usually sings a Taylor Swift song or does an amazing battle cry to intimidate the opponent and pump us up, he is the true support everyone needs.

Our thanks go to Goku for taking the time to answer our questions. We wish you and the rest of Tempo Storm the best of luck competing this remainder of the year.
