This month, there were a lot tournament games that ended in unexpected ways. The most common being the base race. it's always really fun and crazy to watch, so I collected some of my favorites to put on display. Maybe they can help us figure how to win when a base race is imminent
A base race is when two teams late in the game both have the simultaneous idea to rush the core in order to win. This often happens when either teams correctly predicts that it is more likely that they destroy their opponents core before they make it back in time to defend their own or before the other team can completely defend. Sometimes teams ignore the other team entirely because they know they can finish the core before the other team finishes them.
The first base race is from ETS #3 Qualifier between Meet You Makers and Bob?
on Battlefield of Eternity, MYM take Zeratul as the first pick and then the always unexpected Murky on last pick. They have picked Murky's in previous matches and it seems to work for them.
At the 19 minute mark, after a great play from Murky, MYM defeated the enemy immortal and charged along side their immortal to Bob?'s bottom fort. No one thought that this was the beginning of the end, but it actually was.
After quickly crushing all botlane structures, they went straight to the core, even thought all of Bob?' was alive. That didn't stop MYM. They ignored the enemy team and thanks to a beautiful Void Pirson from Zeratul , they had just enough aditional time to seal the deal. Good job by Zeratul and great Heoric.
The 2nd bace race is game #2 of Team Puszek vs. Virtus.pro during the EU Road to BlizzCon qualifiers.
The game goes step by step in favour of Virtus.Pro. All three lanes line on Puzsek's side are totally destroyed and they are level behind; their position in this game cannot be worst.
But, after they managed to release their web weavers and start push, a come back looked possible. It would of been an easy win, but at the same time mercanaries from a Giant camp start to rain down on Puzsek's core. Puzsek knew it would be a waste to send heroes back to defend this, so instead they rushed straight for the core.
Getting the core down to 9 percent, the last member of Puzsek died, leaving only Leoric's ghost in VP's base. VP knew they didn't have much time and in turn rushed straight to the core of Puzsek. Virtus.Pro looked like they were going to take it, but the moment Puzseks resurrected, he flew to the enemy core and destroy it with the help of the now alive Leoric. A very unpredictable game, down to the last second.
The last base race i'll leave you with was game #3 of Virtus Pro vs NaVi during the EU road to BlizzCon qualifiers
Both teams played very aggressive from early game so after only 15 minutes, Na'Vi had only 15% of its core left. Despite this, they managed to defend their base and defeat all of Virtus.Pro's keeps except one.
The last fight of the game near Virtus. Pro's core was very interested because no one actually died during it. This caused Na'Vi to switch gears and try to take the very last keep, but that proved to be a fatal mistake. The moment this happened, Virtus.Pro snuck into Na'Vi's base and immediately won the game.
