Vietnam the first country to three GosuCup SEA championships

All GosuCup coverage + registration links in one place

It was another all-Vietnamese grand final in GosuCup SEA. In the eighth edition of the tournament, Minh Kieu "Infernity" Tuan snatched a 3-1 win over Hoang "Hovati16" Tiep to go to the closing event in February.

History is repeating itself as Vietnam's players are establishing themselves as the king of GosuCup Budget. The first all-Vietnamese grand final happened during GosuCup #2 and six weeks later, the tournament made a full circle.

For Infernity, reaching the grand finals was technically enough - with Hovati16 already qualified for the grand finals, the eventual champion had his place secured, but that didn't stop him from giving his all, ultimately winning the series 3-1 and crowning himself champion.

Unlike most GosuCup champions, Infernity is actually a player with decent experience in online tournaments. The Vietnamese broke out in August when he took fist place in ZOTAC NA #28 and played several more high profile tournaments like the Prismata Cup #2 qualifiers and the most recent edition of SEA Legends. Determined to win another championship to go with his ZOTAC trophy, Infernity has been a GosuCup SEA regular for all eight weeks and now sees his effort paid off.

GosuCup #8 standings:

1. Vietnam Infernity
2. Vietnam Hovati16
3. Malaysia Kananai
4. Indonesia VanillaT
5-8. Philippines Keruya
5-8. Philippines Stat1
5-8. Vietnam Podol87
5-8. Vietnam Neko011

With four representatives in the top eight - two of which grand finalists - Vietnam regains it's spot on the top of the nation standings, edging out the Philippines with just one point. While the other major countries in the region continue to score a point here and there, the difference between them and the leaders is vast, with Indonesia (#3) whole 14 points behind the Philippines.

Nation standings after week 8:

1. Vietnam Vietnam - 38 points
2. Philippines Philippines - 37 points
3. Indonesia Indonesia - 23 points
4. Singapore Singapore - 22 points
5. Thailand Thailand - 12 points
5. Malaysia Malaysia - 12 points
7. Laos Laos - 0 points
7. Cambodia Cambodia - 0 points
7. Burma Burma - 0 points
