ThijsNL breaks King of the Hill records, scores fifth win in a row

MYM player Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk became the first ever player to sit on the throne for five consecutive weeks. The Dutchman ousted eSuba’s Alesh 4-3, adding his head to the long list of slain enemies which includes StrifeCro, Gnimsh, Spo and Twisted.

In all of IHearthU King of the Hill’s history, only three players have had the chance to pursue a five-game win streak. Being paired against eSuba’s Alesh in tonight’s edition of the showmatch, Thijs was given the chance to did what Curse’s Alchemixt and Savjz failed to do.

The Dutchman opened strong, running a Miracle Rogue against Alesh’s Shaman. Thijs set up a brutal T7, playing a Gadgetzan Auctioneer and drawing into a second one, shrugging off the Hex that frogged the first one. Alesh furiously tried to establish a taunted board off of his Feral Spirits but a combination of Saps and removals left him exposed to a triple Leeroy play for the 1-0.

Zoo came in for the Czech player, putting lots of pressure onto Thijs from the very first turn and by T5 Miracle’s life total was halved. Even though Thijs managed to clear the board by the skin of his teeth, he was down to 3 hp by T8 and a Soulfire top deck finished him off.

The Zoo almost took another kill against the enemy Shaman. Thijs tried to be as cost efficient with his Lightning Storms as possible which resulted in him being at 4 hp on T10 but his patience paid off as a Rockbitten Al’Akir stormed in to make it 2-1.

The points continued to sway from one player to the other. In a reverse match-up from game one, Alesh’s Rogue killed Thijs’ Shaman as well as his Handlock, drawing just the right cards at the right time. Down 3-2, Thijs had only one hope – his signature Druid deck.

Just like in the StrifeCro series, Thijs’ “Dudu” became the star of the series. Early pressure in game six combined with a late Gadgetzan draw from Alesh tied the score, leading to a Druid mirror for the final game. Although Alesh was able to get an early Yeti out, Thijs kept possession of tempo all throughout the game, bringing it to a finish on the back of Force of Nature.

With his victory here, Thijs becomes the second most successful player in Hearthstone King of the Hill events, lagging behind Amaz’s six NESL KotH victories. The Dutchman will fight DKMR’s Hosty in episode #27 to tie himself with Liquid’s newest recruit.
