What is teased for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV?

Four factions will be playable in Dawn of War IV. Orks and Space Marines return for the fourth instalment, while the Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus make their debut in the mainline series. The Space Marines will notably feature two Chapters: the Dark Angels and Blood Ravens.

The trailer breaks down each faction's strengths and unique gameplay mechanics.

The Orks boast “cheap, fast-to-produce units” that allow for rapid expansion and aggressive map control.

The Adeptus Mechanicus, meanwhile, combines flesh and machine to achieve superior battlefield intelligence. This faction specialises in research, allowing players to unlock new units and weapons while applying buffs across their network. Its Augur Vision ability also enables players to see enemy movements from afar.

The Necrons are ancient, immortal machines bolstered by their Tomb Citadel, which builds, heals and strengthens everything within its reach. Each new structure increases their power, unlocking additional capabilities, including resurrection and teleportation.

The genetically enhanced super-soldiers of the Space Marines also return, bringing air strikes and orbital bombardments to the battlefield. In Dawn of War IV, players can choose between two Chapters: the Dark Angels and Blood Ravens.

“The Dark Angels deliver overwhelming shock and awe to the front lines, while the Blood Ravens excel in smaller skirmishes and covert operations behind enemy lines,” the narrator explains.

Dawn of War IV will feature four campaigns spanning more than 70 missions. Beyond the campaign, the trailer also showcases Skirmish mode, allowing players to practise against AI opponents with full control in customisation. Four different battle types and 30 maps will be available at launch, with more maps planned for the future.

The fan-favourite co-operative survival mode, The Last Stand, will also return. Players can team up with two allies to survive 20 waves of enemies. Five commanders will be available at launch, with more set to arrive later.

The game also offers in-depth character customisation, allowing players to equip cosmetic items and decals, as well as paint individual parts of their units for a more personal touch.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is scheduled to launch on 3 December 2026, a delayed launch from its originally-planned September release. Early Access is available beginning on 30 November for buyers of the Commander Edition.
