Cyberpunk TCG reveals Edgerunners Burn Bright expansion coming in spring 2027

The second Cyberpunk TCG set will bring the anime's characters, cyberware, and new gameplay mechanics to TCG.

Night City is getting a little bigger in the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game (TCG), as developer WeirdCo has officially unveiled its second set, Edgerunners: Burn Bright, arriving in spring 2027.

The announcement was made on Tuesday (20 October) during WeirdCo's Creator Invitational livestream, coinciding with the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. The reveal also comes just weeks before the card game's debut set, Welcome to Night City, hits retail stores.

Inspired by the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, the upcoming expansion will bring familiar faces, weapons, and cyberware from the series into the card game. Players can also look forward to new gameplay mechanics and more ways to build their crews.

What is Cyberpunk TCG's Edgerunners: Burn Bright expansion?

Edgerunners: Burn Bright is the first major expansion for Cyberpunk TCG, focusing on the popular Netflix anime created by CD PROJEKT RED and animation studio TRIGGER. The set will introduce characters, weapons, cyberware, and scenes from the series, bringing more of the Edgerunners universe into the game.

Among the new additions are Legends and Units based on characters from the anime. Players can add these cards to their existing decks or build entirely new crews around their favourite Edgerunners characters. WeirdCo is also working on new mechanics that will open up different strategies when facing rival crews.

"The community reception to Cyberpunk TCG has been nothing short of incredible so far, so we want to deliver something even more exciting with Set 2," said WeirdCo co-founder Elliot Cook. Cook explained that the anime gives the development team plenty of opportunities to expand the game, both through its mechanics and artwork. More details about these additions will be shared in the coming months.

What new cards and rarities are coming to Edgerunners: Burn Bright?

Aside from the new characters, Edgerunners: Burn Bright will feature booster packs filled with artwork inspired by the anime's visual style. The cards will come with different foil and textured treatments, giving collectors more artwork to look out for when opening packs.

In an exclusive reveal by IGN, two pieces of card artwork featuring Maine and Falco from the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime were unveiled. The first, titled "Badass Shades", features Maine's signature red sunglasses, while the second, "Falco Hang on Tight!", showcases the crew's getaway driver and his familiar moustache.

Neither card's abilities nor classifications have been confirmed, leaving their roles in the game a mystery. However, the artwork offers an early look at how characters from the anime will be represented in the upcoming expansion.

WeirdCo has also confirmed an entirely new chase rarity, although the developer is keeping its details under wraps. Chase cards are among the most sought-after collectibles in trading card games, often featuring special artwork or finishes. Cyberpunk TCG already uses special texturing on some of its highest-rarity cards.

As for the rest of the set, WeirdCo has yet to reveal how the new gameplay mechanics will work or how many cards will be included in the expansion. More reveals are planned over the coming months, including previews during Edgerunner Open Regional tournament broadcasts on Twitch and YouTube.

When is Cyberpunk TCG: Edgerunners: Burn Bright releasing?

Cyberpunk TCG: Edgerunners: Burn Bright is scheduled to launch in spring 2027, although WeirdCo has not announced an exact release date. The expansion will initially be available in English and French, with Chinese language support planned for a later date.

Players won't have to wait until the full retail launch to try the new cards, either. WeirdCo plans to hold pre-release tournaments at participating hobby stores one week before the expansion arrives. These events will give players an early opportunity to open booster packs, build decks, and test the new cards against other competitors.

Meanwhile, Cyberpunk TCG's first set, Welcome to Night City, is preparing for its full retail release on 6 November 2026. Pre-release events are scheduled to begin on 30 October, giving players their first chance to experience the retail version of the tabletop game.

Cyberpunk TCG has already enjoyed a strong start, with its Kickstarter campaign breaking crowdfunding records earlier this year. The campaign eventually raised more than US$28.3 million from over 50,000 backers, generating plenty of interest ahead of the game's retail debut.

The next set of card reveals and gameplay details for Edgerunners: Burn Bright will be announced in the coming months, ahead of its spring 2027 release.
