The new Deathwatch series will be written by John Orloff, animated by Blur Studio, and released through Amazon Prime Video.
Warhammer publisher Games Workshop has announced that a new Warhammer 40,000 animated series featuring the Deathwatch is now in the works. The series will be released through Amazon Prime Video as part of Games Workshop's long-term partnership with the streaming giant to adapt the Warhammer 40,000 universe into films and television series.
Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree revealed the new animated series in its 2025-2026 annual report on Tuesday (28 July), which also contained updates on other Warhammer media adaptations currently in development. According to the reveal, the new Deathwatch animated series will be written by John Orloff and animated by Blur Studio. No release date has been revealed yet.

New Warhammer 40,000 Deathwatch animated series revealed
Rountree didn't share too many details on the new Deathwatch animated series in the announcement, but what little information they did reveal should make Warhammer 40,000 fans excited.
The Deathwatch is a special Chapter of Space Marines, serving as the Imperium of Man's premier weapon against the myriad Xenos threats of the galaxy. What makes the Deathwatch so good at dealing with aliens is that it fills its ranks with veteran Space Marines from many different Chapters, who all bring their own experience and expertise in fighting the likes of the Orks, Tyranids, and Aeldari, among many others Xenos races.
John Orloff, who will be writing the series, is best known for his work in the award-winning TV series Band of Brothers, which told the story of the famed Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army in the Western Front of World War 2. A series focused on genetically-enhanced supersoldiers from widely different backgrounds working together to fight the worst alien horrors that Warhammer 40,000's grimdark universe can muster should be right up Orloff's alley.
Meanwhile, Blur Studio will be getting its biggest Warhammer project yet in the new Deathwatch series. Blur has already produced some of the best depictions of Warhammer 40,000 in media yet, including the vaunted Warhammer 40,000 episode for Secret Level and the iconic opening cinematic for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.
While the Deathwatch is still languishing in the tabletop, the Chapter has been getting a lot of love in both media and video games. Aside from the new Amazon Deathwatch series, the Imperium's premier Xeno hunters will also be featured in the much-awaited Astartes II. It will be the sequel to the seminal fan animation Astartes, with its original creator Syama Pedersen working closely with the Warhammer Studio in its creation.
The Deathwatch are also front and center in the recently-announced sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters: Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Deathwatch, which will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but has no official release date yet.
Age of Sigmar to be featured in Secret Level Season 2, Warhammer 40K live action series onboards United Artists and Mike Flanagan
Aside from revealing the new Deathwatch animated series, Rountree also shared updates on the other Warhammer adaptations in the works with Amazon.
First up, Warhammer Age of Sigmar will be getting its own episode in Secret Level Season 2. Rountree added that they have “almost completed” the episode, so fans should expect a teaser to be revealed soon.
Age of Sigmar is Games Workshop's other flagship tabletop wargame, and is set in a high-fantasy universe that serves as a direct continuation of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. With Secret Level Season 1 featuring the Space Marines of Warhammer 40,000, we can guess that the Age of Sigmar episode in Season 2 will depict the Stormcast Eternals–who are basically high-fantasy Space Marines.
Meanwhile, the highly-anticipated Warhammer 40,000 live-action series has brought onboard American production company United Artists (UA) and writer/director Mike Flanagan. Flanagan is known for his work in horror, having directed horror series such as The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass as well as the 2019 horror film Doctor Sleep.
According to Rountree, “UA have been decisive and brought their renowned pace and quality to the project” while Flanagan “should soon be moving on to script” after completing initial outlines.
Rountree also clarified that Vertigo and known Warhammer 40,000 fan Henry Cavill remains “involved as they have been for some time” in the project.
