The hide-and-seek sensation continues its remarkable rise less than two weeks after launch.
Meccha Chameleon continues to defy expectations. Just days after crossing the three million sales mark, the viral multiplayer hide-and-seek game has now surpassed seven million copies sold, reaching the milestone only 12 days after launch. In the process, it has overtaken the sales pace of major releases such as Resident Evil Requiem and Crimson Desert, despite being developed by a sole developer. The milestone was announced through the game's Steam community page on Monday (22 June).

Meccha Chameleon reaches seven million sales in less than two weeks
The milestone was announced through the game's Steam page, where the developer confirmed that Meccha Chameleon had sold more than seven million copies.
"7 million copies sold! Thank you so much!" the developer wrote. They also revealed that a new Japan-themed map would be arriving either today or tomorrow, alongside additional updates planned for the game.
Much of the game's visibility has come through player recommendations and creator coverage, rather than traditional marketing campaigns, as Automaton had reported that the developer spent nothing on marketing campaigns. Clips showcasing its disguise-based gameplay and chaotic multiplayer moments have spread widely online, helping the title reach audiences far beyond its initial launch.
How does Meccha Chameleon compare to 2026's biggest games?
Meccha Chameleon's rise becomes even more striking when compared to some of the year's biggest releases. The indie hit reached seven million copies sold in just 12 days, a pace that exceeds several major launches in 2026. Resident Evil Requiem, currently the fastest-selling game in the Resident Evil franchise, reached seven million sales in under two months. Meanwhile, Crimson Desert, one of the year's most anticipated new IPs, sold six million copies in less than three months.
For a multiplayer game developed by a sole developer, Meccha Chameleon's sales trajectory has placed it alongside titles backed by some of the industry's largest publishers and development studios.
The game's momentum is also reflected on Steam. According to SteamDB, Meccha Chameleon has already recorded a peak of 340,534 concurrent players, making it one of the platform's biggest launches of the year. That figure currently trails only Slay the Spire 2, Task Bar Hero, Subnautica 2, and Resident Evil Requiem among 2026 releases.
Why has Meccha Chameleon become so popular?
Part of Meccha Chameleon's appeal comes from its simple premise and accessible multiplayer gameplay. The game builds upon hide-and-seek mechanics that the developer had previously experimented with through Fortnite creations. Players disguise themselves, blend into their surroundings, and attempt to outsmart opponents through deception rather than direct combat.
The formula has resonated with players looking for easy-to-learn social multiplayer experiences, helping the game attract a massive audience shortly after launch. Its success also reflects the growing influence of streamer-driven and friend-group-focused games, which can rapidly gain momentum through clips, recommendations, and general word of mouth.
With new maps and updates already on the way, Meccha Chameleon continues to build on one of the most remarkable breakout successes of the year.
