Henry Cavill has shared the biggest update yet on Amazon's live-action Warhammer 40,000 adaptation, confirming he'll star in the series after Mike Flanagan was recently announced as its writer. In a post on his official Instagram account, the actor also revealed development has already made "considerable advances".
Alongside confirming his role in front of the camera, Cavill shared fresh details on the project's progress, including the creative team's work with Flanagan and the addition of United Artists to the production.
Cavill, who is well known for his passion for Warhammer 40K, announced in 2024 that he was heavily involved in the production and conceptualisation of the series, which had just been signed by Amazon at the time.

While Cavill has now confirmed he'll lead Amazon's live-action adaptation, fans will have to wait a little longer before finding out which character he will portray.
Cavill's Instagram post also answered one of the biggest questions surrounding the adaptation, confirming that he will take the lead role while keeping his character's identity under wraps. “Importantly, some of you have been asking if I will still be starring in the lead role in the live action TV series,” he wrote.
“Rest assured, I most certainly will! Who that character is, however, shall remain a secret for now!” Although Cavill has yet to reveal who he will play, this marks the first time he has publicly confirmed that he will lead the live-action series.

While Cavill kept his character's identity a secret, he had far more to say about the people helping bring the adaptation to life. “We have already been working with [Mike Flanagan] to craft the creative, and we're making some considerable advances in story.” He also confirmed that United Artists has joined the production, calling the partnership an easy decision after working with the studio on Highlander.
Last week's Games Workshop financial report, which first revealed Flanagan's involvement, said the adaptation has completed its initial story outlines, with the filmmaker expected to move on to scripting next. The company also confirmed that Cavill and Vertigo Entertainment remain involved as development continues under Amazon's long-term agreement.
