Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 launches with Vibrant Visuals enabled by default.
Popular sandbox game Minecraft is officially heading to Nintendo Switch 2, with Mojang confirming that the game will launch on 27 October in a post on the official Minecraft website, and the game's official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Alongside the release date, the developer also shared a couple features arriving with the Switch 2 version, including upgraded visuals, improvements to one of the game's Nintendo-exclusive content packs, and support for existing Switch players making the jump to the new console.
What's new in Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2?
Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 will use “Vibrant Visuals” as its default graphical setting, introducing enhanced lighting, improved shadow effects, and a more detailed look across the game's blocky worlds. Mojang also confirmed that Marketplace content supporting the feature will automatically benefit from the visual upgrade, allowing compatible worlds and add-ons to take advantage of the enhanced presentation.
The Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up pack is also receiving an update to better showcase the new visuals. The crossover pack features a custom Mario-themed world, themed music, unique character skins, and recreations of iconic locations such as Peach's Castle and Delfino Plaza, all within Minecraft.
Existing Nintendo Switch players will be able to transfer their worlds to the Switch 2 version. Mojang also said players who already own Minecraft on Switch will have access to a digital upgrade option, although pricing and eligibility requirements have yet to be announced. More information will be shared at a later date.
The developer has not yet confirmed whether the Nintendo Switch 2 version will support Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, a feature that could make building and other precision-based tasks easier. Further details about the port are expected in the coming weeks.
