Nintendo confirms over 23 million Switch 2 units sold, reveals best-selling games

The Nintendo Switch 2 has surpassed over 23 million total units sold worldwide just over a year after launch.

Nintendo has unveiled its latest sales figures for the Switch family, alongside updated rankings for the best-selling games across each platform.

The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to soar, reaching 23.68 million units sold worldwide roughly 14 months after its launch in 2025. That represents a remarkable pace, especially when compared to the PlayStation 5, which sold 30 million units worldwide within a similar timeframe and remains Sony's fastest-selling console launch. The achievement is even more notable given Nintendo's reliance on first-party exclusives, unlike PlayStation, which benefits from a much broader third-party ecosystem. 

Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch is closing in on historic territory, though it would likely take a while. Now just around 3 million units away from surpassing the PlayStation 2's lifetime console sales record of 160 million, the Switch is already Nintendo's best-selling console ever, ahead of the Nintendo DS and Game Boy families.

What are the best-selling Nintendo Switch games?

Nintendo also released its newly-updated top games sold on both Switch editions. Note that these worldwide sales numbers exclude sales in Japan, however.

Mario Kart World, one of Nintendo's flagship franchises, comfortably tops the sales charts with 15.39 million copies sold–more than three times the total of the second best-selling title. 

Donkey Kong Bananza follows in second with 4.78 million copies, while Pokémon Legends: Z-A–Nintendo Switch 2 Edition ranks third with 3.99 million. 

Pokémon Pokopia, the newest game on the list that was released in March 2026, sits in fourth with 3.68 million copies sold. Kirby Air Riders rounds out the top five with 1.90 million, followed by Super Mario Party Jamboree in sixth place–which has also surpassed the one-million mark.

For the original Nintendo Switch, the rankings remain unchanged from Nintendo's previous sales update, with only slight increases added to the total copies sold. The 2017 release Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to lead the best-seller charts, followed by 2020's Animal Crossing: New Horizons, 2018's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey. 

The list is rounded out by 2022's Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, 2019's Pokémon Sword/Shield, 2023's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, 2018's Super Mario Party, and 2019's New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
