Monster Hunter: World has sold like hotcakes.
Capcom has officially announced some rather impressive sales numbers for Monster Hunter: World. The 2018 action-RPG has sold a whopping 30 million copies, making the game Capcom’s “best-selling single title of all time.”
Now, Capcom is looking to release an expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, entitled Ascendance–adding two new Elder Dragons and lots more content for players to chew on.
What is Capcom’s best-selling game of all time?
Earlier this weekend, Capcom had lots of news to share for its biggest franchises. For example, Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest entry in the publisher’s beloved monster-slaying franchise, is getting a meaty new expansion called Ascendance. The expansion adds Master Rank, a new locale, new monsters to hunt, and new abilities to hunt them with.
The announcement comes as the franchise hits an impressive milestone. 2018’s Monster Hunter: World has crossed 30 million copies sold, becoming Capcom’s best-selling “single title” of all time. Back in 2024, the game publisher had confirmed that Monster Hunter: World had sold 25 million copies, meaning that the game has sold five million copies since then.
Monster Hunter: World’s ballooning sales is a likely sign of the franchise’s larger ongoing popularity. Its sequel, Monster Hunter Rise, launched in 2021 on the Nintendo Switch, before launching on PC and other console platforms later. It was followed by a more ambitious sequel in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Now, a Nintendo Switch 2 port for Monster Hunter Wilds is in the works, along with an expansion for the base game. The expansion will launch in 2027.
