Hearthstone announces Cataclysm expansion launching in March 2026

Here’s everything you can look forward to in Hearthstone’s upcoming Cataclysm expansion, launching on 18 March.

Blizzard has unveiled the Cataclysm cinematic trailer, signalling the start of the Year of the Scarab campaign and kicking off the countdown to the next major update. The Cataclysm expansion is set to arrive in Hearthstone on 18 March, bringing a wealth of new features and content, with a fearsome returning Deathwing at the centre of it all.

All new content revealed for Hearthstone’s Cataclysm expansion

Deathwing Hero Card announced

Fans of the collectible card game can look forward to 135 new cards–a standard addition for a full expansion–including the first-ever Deathwing Hero Card.

Titled Deathwing, Worldbreaker, this card allows players to unleash a Battlecry that lets them choose a Cataclysm of their choice: topple the largest enemy minion, raze the board with a wave of flame, enthral minions to join your army, or summon your fearsome dragon progeny to the battlefield.

The Deathwing Hero Card becomes more powerful with each use of the new Herald keyword, enabling you to unleash additional Cataclysms as the game progresses.

Eager players will be able to try Deathwing, Worldbreaker early during the upcoming Cataclysm Pre-Release Tavern Brawl, which begins on 11 March.

Colossal goes BIG, new keywords are revealed

Blizzard is also enhancing the fan-favourite Colossal mechanic by introducing brand-new Legendary Colossal cards for every class.

Two new keywords–Shatter and Herald–will also make their debut in Hearthstone.

Herald instantly summons a Colossal Soldier that scales in strength throughout the match. Playing a Herald minion summons a Soldier with the same ability as your class Colossal’s appendages. Each time you use Herald, both your Soldier and Colossal appendages are upgraded. As mentioned earlier, Herald also enhances the Cataclysms tied to the Deathwing Hero Card.

Meanwhile, Shatter is a new keyword designed for dragonflight-aligned classes. According to Blizzard’s blog post:

“When you draw a card with Shatter, it breaks into two pieces that move to opposite ends of your hand. You can play the pieces separately, but if you manage to bring them back together by playing the cards in between, they recombine into a single card that’s doubly strong.”

More events arrive with Cataclysm

To celebrate the upcoming release, Blizzard has opened the Dragon’s Hoard, offering players a range of free rewards including cards, Hero Skins, card backs, and more. Players can also claim a free Legendary Warmaster Blackhorn card simply by logging in.

Beginning 11 March, Blizzard will also launch the Dream City Trial Cards, granting full access to every card from Into the Emerald Dream and The Lost City of Un’Goro–including Golden versions–free to use throughout the Cataclysm expansion.

Players can additionally take part in the ongoing online event, “Rally the Dragonflights”, which runs until 17 March. This community-driven event, accessible via the Cataclysm Rally Point page, promises a free Legendary Ebyssian and two Signature copies of Envoy of the End if specific social media milestones are met.
