HoYoverse officially announces new game Varsapura, seemingly set in Singapore, with 31-minute demo

HoYoverse has announced a brand-new action-adventure game.

HoYoverse has officially announced an all-new action-adventure game called Varsapura, potentially a play on "Singapura", which is also Singapore's name in the Malay language, as it looks like the game is set in a fictional world of the country. The company published a 31-minute demo showcasing early gameplay from the title, with a section dedicated to showing all the landmarks in what seems to be Singapore's area of Bencoolen, City Hall and Fort Canning.

Fans spotted social media accounts for an unknown HoYoverse video game popping up online this week, featuring only an avatar icon and the title Varsapura. Now, fans have their first look at the upcoming game.

Here’s the gameplay video:

HoYoverse shows off 31 minutes of gameplay from upcoming game Varsapura

HoYoverse has been on a spree of game announcements recently, following the unveiling of Honkai Nexus Anima and Petit Planet earlier this year. This week, the developer announced a rather unique new entry in its expanding portfolio: Varsapura, an action-adventure game with a more realistic artstyle and a modern-day urban setting.

Varsapura’s announcement was accompanied by a short description of its newly-released gameplay footage:

“SEAL — Shadow Emergency Alliance

Internal Directive 047-EX

All footage was captured from live operational environments (codename: RTX4090). Should you detect any anomalies or interferences, report immediately through secure channels.

Upon entering Varsapura, the protagonist’s appearance shifts to match each viewer’s preferences. The origin of this parapsychological effect remains unknown.

Remain calm. Avoid excessive speculation and maintain composure to prevent Cognosea disruption events. SEAL will continue full-spectrum monitoring.

SEAL has authorized the release of only the English-voice over version at this time, to maintain operational continuity while all available personnel remain assigned to core research initiatives. Additional language modules are in development and will be deployed once system stability is confirmed.

We are currently recruiting individuals with exceptional perceptual acuity and high cognitive stability.

Join SEAL. Make a difference.”

In other words, the gameplay footage was captured using an RTX4090 card on PC. HoYoverse is also hinting that players will be able to create their own characters in-game, and voiceovers of the gameplay demo will soon be available in different languages. The developer is also recruiting staff to work on the upcoming project.

Little else is known about the game as of right now, but we can glean a few details from the gameplay demo above. The game seems to revolve around the spread of an infectious substance called Mindrot, following a group of safety officials known as “Seal.” The game also features multiple playable characters, with real-time combat in the vein of Zenless Zone Zero.

The demo also ends with a lengthy driving sequence in a modern-day city setting, suggesting that Varsapura might feature some form of open-world exploration. From the looks of it, this game does not appear to be the “realistic fantasy” project HoYoverse teased two weeks ago.

Varsapura does not have a release date yet.
