Cancelled Prince of Persia remake leaves voice actress devastated after three years of work

The alleged VA from the scrapped Prince of Persia remake voiced her frustrations: "It was the best performance of my career, and now no one will ever see it."

Canadian-Pakistani voice actress Eman Ayaz, who was supposedly the voice of Farah in the recently cancelled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, has expressed her deep disappointment over the game’s unexpected demise.

In a YouTube video, Eman described how she dedicated the past three years to a life-changing project that involved a strenuous audition process and significant personal sacrifices. She was eager to speak publicly about her role and patiently awaited the game’s release, which had seemed imminent just months ago, as the team had even filmed marketing content for the game two months prior.

“Three years ago, I booked a life-changing role on a life-changing project. It was a rigorous audition process, including a self-tape audition, an in-person callback, and a chemistry read that I had to fly out of the city for.

"I’ve spent the last three years getting to know the team, which has become like a family to me. I’ve watched the project grow through countless stages of development, and I waited and waited for it to finally be released so I could talk about it,” Eman stated.

However, she recently learned that the project had been cancelled–and, to make matters worse, she did not hear the news through official channels.

“This week, I found out through the internet that the project was canceled. I was in total shock. Just two months ago, I filmed marketing for this project, and everything had been running smoothly. That was the last I had heard. We were all looking forward to it being released this year, so it felt like emotional whiplash to suddenly find out in such a random way,” she said.

Although Eman did not explicitly mention the project’s title due to being under a strict NDA, her statements–along with a recent repost on X highlighting Prince of Persia–strongly suggest she was referring to Ubisoft’s recently cancelled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.

The community has also reached the same conclusion, with many fans sharing her story across social media and offering messages of support.

Eman concluded her 11-minute video with a heartfelt tribute to the project and the team behind it, saying: “This project existed, even if the world never got to see it. So many talented artists devoted countless hours to making it happen, and that doesn’t just disappear. It will live on in our hearts forever, as fricking corny as that sounds. The only way these stories survive is if the audience demands them.”

Prince of Persia remake shutdown stemmed from Ubisoft's major overhaul

Originally released in 2003, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is widely regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time. Ubisoft had been preparing to release the remake this year, with several updates pointing towards an upcoming launch.

However, the project was ultimately shelved amid major internal restructuring at the company, which reportedly resulted in widespread layoffs, the closure of two studios, and the cancellation of five additional projects. The aggressive cost-cutting measures also sent Ubisoft’s shares plunging by a record 40%.
