HoYoverse announces new realistic fantasy game built in Unreal Engine 5

HoYoverse has unveiled another brand-new title currently in the works.

Game developer HoYoverse, also known as MiHoYo in China, has revealed a brief glimpse at its next big game: a fantasy title built in Unreal Engine 5. While details on the upcoming project are scarce, its website does include a link to job applications that hint at a few of its features.

According to the job descriptions available via the website, players can expect a fantasy game with realistic visuals, and a focus on action-packed combat.

HoYoverse announces all-new fantasy game

Game developer HoYoverse is teasing its next big flagship video game, which seems to herald a departure from the anime-inspired visuals featured in its many gacha titles released to date. The game was revealed with a brief snippet of footage ostensibly captured in-game, featuring shallow waters, a damp grassy field, and frozen aurora-like phenomena hanging in the air.

A closer look at the video reveals a few subtle details. In the horizon, we can see two enigmatic riders on horseback disappearing into mist-covered territory. In the air, we see winged dragons flying through the sky. In the foreground towards the end of the video, another strange creature briefly emerges from the water, before vanishing again.

The game’s website went live earlier today, including the aforementioned video footage and links to internal job applications for the title. Via machine translation, these job applications appear to refer to the project as a “realistic fantasy” game. Applications mostly concern animations and artwork for unnamed monsters and characters for the game.

Interestingly, one application concerning Unreal Engine 5 game client development calls for the applicant to be able to “handle the multi-platform operation of projects, including PC, consoles, and mobile devices.” This suggests that the game will be multi-platform with a mobile release, much like previous HoYo games–despite its realistic approach to visual fidelity.

A post originating from a leaker known as “Seele” has also begun to circulate online, claiming that the fantasy project will include open world elements, boss battles, co-op multiplayer, intelligent NPCs, and realistic in-game visuals.

The title and release date of HoYoverse’s new fantasy game are currently unknown. HoYoverse also has two more upcoming games in the works: Honkai Nexus Anima and Petit Planet.
