Dragon Ball Age 1000 announced as all-new game project, launches in 2027

The game features a mysterious Super Saiyan brought to life by the late Akira Toriyama.

Bandai Namco and the Dragon Ball franchise have unveiled a new title, Dragon Ball: Age 1000, during the recent Genkidamatsuri event, which included a special 40th anniversary celebration in Japan, marking four decades since the series’ debut in Weekly Shonen Jump.

The game is set for release in 2027 and introduces a brand-new Dragon Ball world featuring original characters, including a mysterious new fighter capable of tapping into the Super Saiyan form, all designed by series creator, the late Akira Toriyama before his passing in 2024.

The announcement followed a global premiere of a Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Special Video, a commemorative animation that reimagines Akira Toriyama’s original colour illustrations with modern production techniques. Produced by Toei Animation and directed by Naoki Miyahara, the short traces Son Goku’s journey across the franchise’s long history.

Alongside the game reveal, the franchise confirmed two new anime titles, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which takes place after Tournament of Power, and Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, Tournament of Power, as part of the wider franchise showcase.

Dragon Ball: Age 1000 updates scheduled for Games Battle Hour 2026

According to the development staff, work on the project has been underway for some time, with the team aiming to deliver a denser and more expansive setting than previous instalments. “More elements and settings were packed into Age 1000 than in any other game in the past and Mr. Toriyama has put a lot of work into it.” Further details about gameplay and systems have not yet been disclosed, but additional updates are scheduled to appear at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 in the United States on 18 to 19 April.

Before Age 1000, the latest major entry in the series was DRAGON BALL: Sparking ZERO. Released on 11 October 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the Spike Chunsoft-developed fighter revived the Budokai Tenkaichi line after a 15-year break. It launched with 182 playable characters and moved three million copies within its first 24 hours on sale.

Fans eager to see more of Dragon Ball: Age 1000 can look to Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 in the United States on 18 to 19 April, where the game is expected to receive its next update.
