Reverse bullet-hell indie game Megabonk hits a million copies sold in two weeks

Megabonk is also the eighth indie game to hit 100,000 plus concurrent players on Steam.

The chaotic, skateboarding skeleton of Megabonk has taken the internet by storm. In just two weeks, this offbeat action survival game has sold over one million copies and is currently outperforming Borderlands 4 in daily player counts on Steam.

Developed by indie creator Vedinad, Megabonk puts players in the bony shoes of a skeleton armed with a skateboard and a knack for chaos. The gameplay draws clear inspiration from Vampire Survivors, combining over-the-top attacks with a flood of enemies and absurd upgrades.

The game's official X (formerly Twitter) account announced this a few days ago to celebrate the milesone.

“ONE MILLION MEGABONK COPIES SOLD IN 2 WEEKS, THANK YOU GUYS!!" The post read. "I’ll be eating spaghetti with EXTRA sauce tonight,” the post also jokingly added. This quickly went viral, echoing the same energy that has helped propel Megabonk into meme status within the gaming community.

Megabonk Climbs Steam Charts and overtakes big hits like Borderlands 4

According to SteamDB’s global sales chart, Megabonk climbed into the sixth spot worldwide, overtaking several major releases, including Borderlands 4, Dying Light: The Beast, and Hollow Knight: Silksong. It also reached a new peak of 117,336  concurrent players, a number that puts it in the same conversation as long-time heavy hitters on the platform.

This makes Megabonk the eighth indie game to hit 100,000 or more peak concurrent players this year, joining the likes of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hades II, DeltaRune, Peak,  Bongo Cat, Schedule I, and R.E.P.O.

The game’s rise mirrors the viral success of titles like Lethal Company, which grew steadily after launch thanks to community buzz and streaming popularity. But where other games took weeks to build traction, Megabonk’s quirky charm and skateboarding skeleton protagonist have made it a surprise sensation.

Beyond the skeleton star, the game features 20 playable characters, including a monkey with sunglasses and several other bizarre heroes, all ready to unleash chaotic, screen-filling attacks.

Megabonk is available on Steam for US$9.99.
